Indian GSLV will truly ‘arrive’ this month

Quote
Enters the all-Indian GSLV, finally, later this month. The GSLV-F05 flight coming up on August 28 or 29 will be its first regular, full-service or 'operational' one
Quote
GSLV-Mk2 however can put only satellites weighing up to 2,200 kg into geostationary space. At least four more of them are in the making now.
Quote
Another official said the plan is to do two GSLV launches a year from next year, apart from doubling the PSLV rate to ten or a dozen a year.

ISRO/ISAC has called for EoI industry/vendors to build standard ISRO satellites:

http://www.isro.gov.in/sites/default/files/tenders/eoi_4.pdf

Quote
INVITATION FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST [EoI] FOR SYSTEMS ASSEMBLY, INTEGRATION AND TESTING OF STANDARD ISRO SATELLITES THROUGH INDUSTRY

Quote
ISRO Satellite Centre [ISAC] of Indian Space Research Organization [ISRO] under Department of Space, Government of India is the lead centre of ISRO for Design, Development, Fabrication and Testing of all Indian made Satellites. As a sequel to its mandate of spacecraft realisation, the Centre is engaged in the development of cutting-edge technologies of relevance to its Satellite Building Activities and setting up of infrastructure for Design, Development, Fabrication and Testing of Spacecraft.

The proposal is to invite Expression of Interest and to enter into Contract with Industry for Systems Assembly, Integration and Testing [AIT] of Standard ISRO Satellites at ISAC.

Quote
It is proposed to carry out the assembly, Integration and testing (AIT) activities of two number of ISRO Standard bus satellites with the participation of the prospective vendor. The entire activity is planned to be carried out in two phases viz Phase-1 and Phase-2. During Phase-1, the AIT activities of the first satellite will be done by ISAC while on-the-job training will be given to the vendor. The AIT activities of the second satellite will be carried out by the selected vendor under the supervision of ISRO/ISAC in phase-2.

After successful completion of Phase-2, potential vendors may be invited to take up satellite fabrication activities on an end-to-end basis and/or carry out assembly, integration and testing of spacecraft at ISAC/ISITE campus which is beyond the scope of this EoI.

The Vendor shall take up the activity within ISAC premises at ISITE (ISRO Satellite Integration and Test Establishment) campus, Marathalli, Bangalore. ISAC will provide all necessary infrastructures & facilities to facilitate vendor to carry out Assembly, Integration and Testing of ISRO Standard bus satellites.

Thanks vyoma!! I have been looking forward to see the details for SVAB..

The points which caught my eye

1. SVAB is primarily meant for GSLV, LVM3 and future LVs (ULV, HLV??). No mention of PSLV. The greater height of the SVAB appear to indicate ability to accomodate future heavy rockets with heights of 60 m or more.

2. Design doesn't seem to have a separate SSAB. Do they plan to have the functionality incorporated in the SVAB itself, or do they intend to use the existing SSAB for the purpose? A third possibility would be to have that constructed at the opposite end (at the place where I think the TLP might be constructed.)

3. Does the Auxiliary Umbilical Tower refer to the design where the umbilical tower is integrated to the launch pedestral?

4. There is a mention of an S300 solid booster. Has the design of HLV changed to accomodate an even bigger booster? Or is the S300 moniker merely meant to indicate the capability of the crane?

EDIT:
5. Attached the recent snap from Google Maps with the location of SVAB and the probable location of future TLP (my guess  ;)   )

ISRO's Earth observation satellites.
The list should ideally include Cartosat 2A, 2B, 2C,2D and RISAT-2, but seem to have been left out intentionally to depict only the 'civilian' ones.

HPVP hands over documents to ISRO on domes for PSLV
Quote
Heavy Plates & Vessels Plant, a unit of BHEL, on Wednesday handed over joint process documents for pre-machined titanium alloy domes to Vikram Sarabhhai Space Centre (ISRO).
Quote
A BHEL note stated that HPVP was supplying titanium alloy elliptical domes to VSSC-Trivandrum. The domes form a critical part in Stage-4 propellant tank of Satellite Launching Vehicle PSLV. Concerted joint efforts of BHEL-HPVP and VSSC have resulted in successful processing of first batch of pre-machined titanium alloy elliptical domes. The tools and process technology developed at BHEL-HPVP yielded value addition and cost savings.

VSSC has developed a miniaturized and compact Left Ventricle Assist Device (LVAD), which is a mechanical rotary pump that helps the left ventricle of a weak human heart to pump blood to the body. VSSC is looking for collaborating with an advanced medical/research institute for conducting field trials for this device.
