Donna Spaceships - 18/1/2006 7:51 AMIt doesn't seem to be "puffing" like a steam engine? Why is that?
Jonesy STS - 18/1/2006 3:52 PM... allow the boil off of LH2 to escape.
Tap-Sa - 18/1/2006 7:58 AMQuoteJonesy STS - 18/1/2006 3:52 PM... allow the boil off of LH2 to escape. Not sure but I doubt they allow gaseous H2 to freely vent away near the vehicle, that would be an explosion hazard. It's oxygen that keeps puffing out when tanks are filling/full. The GH2 is probably carefully collected, piped far away from the pad and burned in controlled fashion (or perhaps reliquefied?).
Hotol - 18/1/2006 3:34 PMA good time to run this story with the video you spoke about?
DaveS - 18/1/2006 10:14 AMWe have a scrub due to a power outage at the Applied Physics Lab at Johns Hopkins University! The APL is the New Horizons MCC. It looks like a 24 hour recycle.
SpaceCat - 18/1/2006 3:19 PMGradually clearing out now- 100 miles down the coast. No work escape for the Cat today- but we'll see about tomorrow if they decide to try again. After staring at them for hours yesterday, found this little article about the pad lightning protection systems interesting:http://www.aero.org/publications/crosslink/summer2001/05.html
DaveS - 18/1/2006 11:12 PMWe are go for a launch tommorow! Officials met at 4 pm to discuss whether they should go ahead with a launch tommorow or not and they decided to press on for a launch tommorow between 1:08 pm EST and 3:07 pm EST. Weather should ideal tommorow so barring any technical hitches, New Horizons will leave planet Earth bound for Pluto and beyond tommorow at 1:08 pm EST!
