Go Atlas. Go New Horizons.

Let's hope for a clean launch and a good week for NASA.

It's getting a lot of coverage on the news today. We'll get to see this live on Sky News at least.

Does anyone know which online NASA TV feed is the best?  The RealPlayer feed from the official NASA TV site is only 150kbps (awful), while the feed from the USA site ( http://www.unitedspacealliance.com/live/NASATV.htm ) is 225kbps (slightly better, but there are only 1000 slots).

Anyone know of any halfway decent NASA TV feeds online?

You would think NASA would spend some it's $350 million corporate HQ activities budget to actually show the public its pretty pictures. :(

I would go with the official Windows Media link. No problems with that one. In fanct it's alot better on both audio and picture than the Real Media link.
"For Sardines, space is no problem!"

"We're rolling in the wrong direction but for the right reasons"
-USA engineer about the rollback of Discovery prior to the STS-114 Return To Flight mission

Personally, I'm watching Channel 47 on Huntsville cable (it's good to be near a NASA centre), though I'll be in class the time of the launch. On the other hand, the prof is an astronomer, and will probably let us watch anyways...

I'm in an office where the only thing allowed on the telly is Sky Sports News for the football latest.

I'll miss all the video broadcasts.  Of course, I will be watching the rocket live just across the river.  I think it's about 11 miles from the pad.  I'll be meeting Space Cat there, too.  I just hope I can find a radio broadcast of the countdown.

Cheers,

Larry

Shana Dale with Griffin at the conference.

Small opening statements of no note, waiting for questions.

AP Question: "When's the next Shuttle mission?"

Griffin "I'd rather talk about the New Horizons mission. We'll shortly be picking a specific date, it will be something in May, but if it's in July, it'll be July."

Another Shuttle question on ability to make 19 flights: "What we need is to stay with our average statisics. We'll of flown 114 missions in 25 years. Average of 4.5 missions even taking into account two accidents. We'll have three orbiters out of maintainence. All we have to do is to perform our average peformance over previous years. We think the second flight (121) will bare us out on proving we've got it right."

Griffin now a bit miffed to all the Shuttle interest (deal with it Mike! ;) )

On NASA projects, Griffin: "We're not the Sopranos," on a question about robotic mission cuts. :)

ANOTHER Shuttle question!

CBS Radio asking stupid questions about what ifs with the launch date.

Griffin "Sorry I'm not going into speculation."

On "Cost caps"

Griffin "We need to have missions that do not work within a cost cap. We could not have done JSWT under a cost cap, or Hubble, or Cassini. They'll always be a need to do missions that don't work on a cost cap."

6th Feb will be a Griffin budget conference.

On Nuclear:

"NASA will be using a RTG on a Mars science lab mission. Production within the DOE is limited. We don't fly them often enough."

BBC with the usual stupid question, but ask about Columbus module.

"We'll fly 17 or 18 flights (oooh) with the Shuttle. When the Columbus module flys in that schedule, I don't know."
