Delta Pictures
« on: 12/22/2005 12:28 pm »
Howdy y'all...I've uploaded a few pictures of Delta launches...Deep Impact and the Delta Heavy.

These are amateur snapshots taken with a handheld camera, but they came out ok.  Maybe someday I will take my tripod.  Trouble is, in the future I plan to take digital video of the launches...gonna be hard to take stills too.

I have to say that the high definition large files on my computer are much better.

Cheers,

Larry

I like in the Deep Impact photo there is that one guy looking towards you not realizing that everyone on the beach is watching a launch. Some people are so ignorant of what goes on there.

Some people just never get the message...

Maybe it was too much of an effort to turn his chair around ;)

See the guy on the left with his arms up in distain. Could be because someone just put up an umbrella just as Discovery is setting off - at least that's how my strange mind is reading his actions ;)

That in-flight photo of the Delta Heavy just became my new desktop wallpaper.  Fantastic.

Watching launches on the beach. Does it get any better!

Will they get that sound we hear on Shuttle launch videos, from that distance?

Wow!  I am honored.  I love that pic too.  The one I have on my computer is 800k...I can really zoom in on it.

Cheers,

Larry

That's only about 6 or 7 miles from the pad...We get the sound about 30 seconds after launch for the delta IIs.

For the Delta 4 and Atlas 5 and Shuttle launches, it's closer to a minute before we hear it.  Depending on the wind direction, it can be quite loud.  The 'crackle' of the shuttle sound is somewhat reduced, though.  I saw one shuttle launch from about 3 miles...the sound really grabs you at that distance!

Cheers,

Larry
