The dedicated X-band mil-comsat that the Japanese MoD is going to operate with JSAT Corporation now has a launch date. The launch window for January 24 is 07:44 - 08:58 UTC.

DSN Corporation is a joint venture between SKY Perfect JSAT Group (JSAT), NEC, NTT Com and Maeda Corporation. It is a private-public inititative where DSN will finance and manage the Japanese X-Band military network.
Officially everything was ordered by JSAT, with the first of two satellite ordered to MELCO (on DS2000 platform) and the second to NEC (on the NX-G platform). If I'm allowed to speculate, I think that NEC's place was logically MELCO's. But they had an over-billing scandal to the Japanese government and thus they were forbidden from bidding on government contracts for five years.
This would explain why everything was left to JSAT to decide, so they could procure from MELCO. Given that they gave one satellite to each provider, I would also bet that the Japanese military wanted to keep two suppliers of milspec satellites. This enabled NEC to get one contract. I would aso assume that DNS-1 was the "safe" satellite and DSN-2 was the "high risk" bird since NEC has never made such a big GSO bird.
Reality was that MELCO screw up DSN-1 delivery (a tarpaulin blocked an exhaust valve con the container and DNS-1 was overpressurized), and thus was delayed at least by a year.
So was was originally the backup craft, will be the first to be put into service.

The weekly weather forecast for Tanegashima at:
http://space.jaxa.jp/tnsc/tn-weather/data/weekly.gif

I don't read Japanese, but the weather during the launch window on the 24th looks acceptable to me.

Is the launch still on for the 24th?
If so, is the weather forecast favorable to allow launch?

Well at the pre launch press briefing the rocket has been confirmed as in the 204 configuration with the 4S payload fairing. That thing on top might be heavier than one would expect....

Oh and for the 24th "T-zero is set for zero seven colon four four colon zero zero Zulu".  ;)

The sheets shown in the video hint towards a H-2A-204 version with four SRBs. Can someone, who understands Japanese, confirm this?

Moved for live coverage (only "fancast" this time - kudos to the team for somehow managing to do it for the 4th time in less than 2 months!).

While those at TNSC had difficulty getting the apparently classified roll-out time, it looks like this will happen soon at around 18:00 UTC. Unlike those bland rockets that launched the IGS spysats, this H-IIA will apparently spot the Japanese MoD logo plus the national flag.  ;)

Do you have a source for DSN2 being an NX-G?  Based on what I've seen from JSAT both sats are MELCO DS2000 bus
but with NEC as prime contractor - i.e. MELCO built the sat bus and NEC integrates it.. that may be old info though so I'd be happy to see a more up to date source

In the respective DSN-1 thread it said NEC was punished by the Japanese MoD for something it did so it lost DSN1 integration contract to MHI's MELCO which will perform the entire integration itself in place of NEC. NEC still retained to DSN2 although NEC will lose out on several future satellites as a part of its punishment.
I might have it backwards.

Pretty sure I heard "SRB-A" something, so it sounds like burnout and sep went to schedule.

Might've been something about the fairing just now.

Seeing that the 2nd stage isn't painted the ascent profile is probably that of the standard GTO one, so spacecraft separation should come at T+30 minutes or so.

It was the other way around. MHI was found guilty of overcharging the Japanese government. So it was banned from bidding on government contracts for 5 years. When they decided to make a private-public partnership for the DSN X-Band system, the place the should have been of MHI was taken by NEC.
In the end, JSAT was put in charge of procurement and I understood that they gave the first satellite directly to MHI and the second to NEC. But on an August 2016 stockholders disclosure they clearly identify both birds as DS2000.
I always thought that DSN-2 was to be NX-G, but may be the point was that since DSN-1 is a payload on a JSAT birds (I think it's Superbird-8), JSAT could use the main that it pleased (i.e. MHI). But since DSN-2 was dedicated, they had to award the contract to NEC who integrated the MHI bus and payload. Please understand that all this information includes a heavy amount of educated guesses on my part.

A thought:
Maybe Mitsubishi should consider web-casting the H-IIA launches, in coordination with, or independently of, JAXA--even if the payload is for MoD?

ULA does so, even for the NRO/military payloads.
