« on: 03/16/2009 04:40 am »
Definitely the best visual and audio captured by KSC viewers so far online.

Here's another one on YT:

Looks like there's audio from a satellite TV feed or something mixed in that's delayed some 8 seconds from live.

I liked when the sound of the launch drowned out the radios for a bit.  They should turn those off. Great sound though.

Let's try this again. This is for personal camcorder videos of STS-119's launch. Not previous launches, not photographs, not television recordings.

THIS one is just so well-done.  Natural sound, no chatter, no crowds.  Very clear, pristine quality and very smooth tracking, amazing video.  Filmed from a  yard in Merritt Island just 9 or 10 miles west of the pad.

Just calculated that this starts (at :05) into this video, at T+14 seconds, since you can faintly hear a radio in the background at the 2-engine TAL call, which  you can clock form other videos.  Also form the timing of the sound waves, this guy is probably more like 7-7.5 miles west of the pad, not 9 or 10.

Excellent!  And very well-filmed by the passengers.  If that pilot was much closer though, I think the  RSO and SRO would have a safety violation for him!

Just a few minutes before launch, I remember seeing an aircraft's contrail going north to south behind the launch pad.  I wonder if that was the aircaft where this video was shot?

I think airlines should book "Shuttle Flights", take an airliner up from a nearby airport like Orlando, fly over as close as you can get to the Cape, and let the passengers watch the launch.  Of course, the pilot would have to deal with a major CG shift when all the passengers run over to one side of the airplane, but...  ;)

Sorry about the "New Age Techno Mix" music.  The teens I was around keep on shouting "it's crashing" or "it's gonna explode" so I just put my own mix over top.  Thank goodness for garage band right?

And maybe we would've seen footage of two F-15's flying next to the airliner. ;)

This one is unique in that it was filmed from the Canaveral National Seashore, about 11-12 miles southwest of the pad.  Great view and well done.

I set up my Flip Mino HD on the railing surrounding the Vehicle Assembly Building's roof and let it run while I was taking photographs:
