Thanks very much for posting those pictures, bhankiii. They definately 'give life' to the hardware involved in adapting Russian Soyuz and American Apollo space craft. Something even as 'simple' as an adapter between Russian and American space hardware can be quite complicated and still be  mechanically beautiful.

Thanks again!

And here it is in action:
AST-3-191 (July 1975) --- Astronaut Thomas P. Stafford and cosmonaut Aleksei A. Leonov are seen at the hatchway leading from the Apollo Docking Module (DM) to the Soyuz Orbital Module (OM) during the joint U.S. - U.S.S.R. Apollo Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) docking in Earth-orbit mission. Cosmonaut Leonov is in the OM and astronaut Stafford is in the DM.  Leonov holds a camera. The Apollo crew consisted of astronauts Stafford, commander; Donald K. "Deke" Slayton, docking module pilot; Vance D. Brand, command module pilot.  The Soyuz 19 crew consisted of cosmonauts Leonov, command pilot; and Valeri N. Kubasov, flight engineer.

Thanks for posting these. It's interesting how the terminology varies between engineering and ops. In MOD, the "lockdown clamps" are called "hooks".

"hooks" is probably correct.  I'm extrapolating LIDS nomenclature to a design I really don't know that much about.  BTW, these guys were at Space Center Houston, but they couldn't find an appropriate way to display them, so they gave them back.  A while ago the ASTP modules were discreetly powered up via an old (and now excessed) control panel - they still worked.

As an FYI, the first few images are of the current APAS, not the Apollo-Soyuz APAS 75.

Yes, indeed.  The APAS images are the ones labeled "APAS".  The ASTP images are the ones labeled "ASTP".
