Summary of payloads and/or launchers
« on: 01/24/2018 02:13 am »
It would be great if at the start of every new launch thread , we could have a few minimum details clearly mentioned . Like
1. Launcher .. which agency is launching and launch vehicle.
2. Main Payload... eg 4 MT , the minor payloads can be refered to without details.
3. Orbit ...eg LEO with details.
4. Customer.

Thats all.
Sometimes even digging through a complete thread , you cant find the details.

I think we do most of this for most launches now, do you have some examples you could supply (give a link to the first post in the thread) where this is not the case?   Thanks

A lot of the information you are asking for is implicit in the thread titles.  For example:

What orbit will CRS-14 go to?  What is the known mass of Dragon & typical cargo?
What orbit does SES or Iridium typically send their satellites to?

Whether mistakenly or not, forums generally assume some prior knowledge, or the ability of the reader to search it our on his/her own easily.

Like this Japanese satellite.
Orbit , payload(mass), etc is not clearly defined in the first page.

This is something we're not very consistent about.  Some of the info is in the manifest threads.  A lot of times I just Google the payload name and look at Gunter's page (and I link to the page on Gunter's site from the SpaceX mission threads.)  The forums are moderated by volunteers and different people tend to populate the information in the SpaceX, ULA, Chinese, Japanese, Russian sections.  It wouldn't be a bad idea to start sticking a standardized header at the top of mission threads.

This sorta goes along with the discussion in the New NSF Launch Calendar Options thread.
