I wanted to create a dedicated thread to discuss the upcoming CS-1 Green Run test, as its such a pivotal milestone for SLS.  From the NSF article from last year, the test was supposed to start in Sept 2017 with arrival of CS-1 to Stennis.  Do we know of the re-aligned schedule?  I'd assume CS-1 arrives in Q3 of next year but I haven't read anything confirming.

Green Run is April 2019 on the schedule where it flies in December 2019, which isn't likely to happen, so probably Green Run in mid-2019.

Thought it would be useful to resurrect this old thread, now that the CS-1 is complete and pending shipment to Stennis by end of the year.  Does anyone have an updated schedule for the Green Run?

Report to the NASA Advisory Council from March 2018. Has a ton of information on the testing to be done (now mostly completed) of the structural test articles, etc.

Found a more recent NAC report, October 30, 2019. Green Run update on page 16.

Does anybody have a link to what the startup sequence for the four engines will be - circular, lug nut, opposing pairs?

Straight to KSC rather than back to Michoud Stennis for final checkout?  That's the way NASA did many, if not most, Saturn stages.

Do you mean back to Michoud? It will already be at Stennis.

Startup transients ought to be fun

Not sure I quite buy a press-release "simultaneous" as being the same as an engineering simultaneous.

Thanks!

Thanks!

They did sub-scale testing of simultaneous ignition with 4 thrusters.

I did some googling and discovered that on the Shuttle, the engines were ignited with 120 ms (0.12 seconds) delay between each one. They got up to ~90% thrust and were checked to be running OK before SRB ignition.

Seems likely that could be the case for the SLS as well.

I may be misinterpreting the above pages I found, they could be referring to simultaneous ignition of the SRBs.

The @NASA_SLS  rocket core stage for Artemis I has arrived @NASAStennis! The core stage will now be lifted and placed into the historic B-2 Test Stand for the core stage Green Run test.

CS-1 vertical at Stennis, although they had to make it horizontal again due to wind
