I've seen a number of places where people are talking about reentry of SpaceX second stages, and the potential of an SSTO based off the Falcon first stage. Back in the glory days of 2011 the second stage was to reenter after a reentry burn and with the aid of a really good heat shield. That was abandoned (or was it?) but how realistic was it? If that heat shield was on the first stage and it happened to find itself at orbital velocity, would it survive?
Jeff Bezos has billions to spend on rockets and can go at whatever pace he likes! Wow! What pace is he going at? Well... have you heard of Zeno's paradox?
