Mobile version of NSF
« on: 09/23/2013 06:11 pm »
We're doing some work on that, so can people let us know if it auto-detects your phone and sends you to the mobile version of the forum when you enter....

If so, please list phone etc. If not, please do the same.

Thanks.

Works on my iPhone. It's going to take some time to get used to the new interface.

The mobile version is only available for the forum at the moment. News site will be looked at at a later time

Auto-detected my iPad with Chrome as a phone. Personally, I think tablets should use the general site. And I didn't find it intuitive to go to the new posts. Besides, it uses more screen reale state than the full site.

Opera Browser on Android, Samsung Galaxy S2.

Setting: User agent: Desktop. Should serve me desktop versions of all pages. Should be respected.
UA:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/29.0.1547.72 Safari/537.36 OPR/16.0.1212.63780

Result: I get served (wrongly) the mobile version of NSF forum.

Result: I get the mobile site.

If no corrections, then I won't use the site with my phone :( I always use the desktop versions whenever possible.

Autodetected on Droid RAZR.. Chrome, Default and Dolphin browsers.

Preselection highlighting(blue) of forum topics appears in Default and Dolphin browser when attempting to drag page up and down. This is a bit annoying and there is a performance penalty.  This does not happen when using Chrome.

Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; myTouch_4G_Slide Build/GRJ22) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0. Mobile Safari/533.1

It auto-detects it as mobile.  The mobile version of the forums has an annoying problem on my phone: the first time I click on a topic, it takes me there briefly, then bounces me back to the previous page.  I have to click it again to get to the topic.

I think I'd rather use the full version, especially on my ipad. Any way to select which one you want to use?

Yes, you can always switch back to the full site (button on bottom right), but I'm going to set the default for 'tablets' to the full site as soon as possible.

It works on my iPhone with iOS7 but I have some slight issues:

-When scrolling it highlights the section under my finger in blue, which is confusing.

-The forum descriptions are now included in the list of forums, this is different from the old mobile site and it means you have to scroll a lot more to reach the bottom of the list.

-The text size used to display posts is a bit too large.

-When reading a topic with multiple pages there's no indication of the total number of pages, i.e. 'page 2/5' and there is no 'next' or 'previous' button to navigate pages.
