The IRNSS launch has been delayed for quite some time. The original plan was to deploy the whole constellation (with 7 satellites) by the end of this year.

Do we know if this launch is still scheduled in Q1 2013?

Oh and has the navigation system's ICD (or something like that) ever been released?

One navigation sat is planned in 2013 as per ISRO.

Srishti se pehle sat nahin thaa, asat bhi nahin | Antariksh bhi nahin, aakaash bhi nahin thaa | chhipaa thaa kyaa, kahaan, kisne dhakaa thaa | us pal to agam, atal jal bhi kahaan thaa ||

ICD was finalized years ago but wasn't released yet.

ISRO is planning IRNSS-1 in May 2013 as per the latest news! It is supposed to be launched on new PSLV variant HP version (with improved 4th stage along with other improvements) that carries 2000kg payload. Pls refer.

I guess, this is still on papers as there is no news about this till now. So, we can assume, ISRO uses XL version for this launch (since payload weight is within XL range).

Thx

Just asking with enthu...How much is the payload gain if PSLV uses:

1. S200 for 1st stage (instead of S139)
2. S12 for 3rd stage (instead of S7)

I mean, a PSLV with the following config:
Stage 1: S200 + 6 S12 Strap ons
Stage 2: L40H
Stage 3: S12
Stage 4: L2.5

Any guess? Would that be around 1600Kg-1700Kg?

Thx

XL version cannot be used for placing IRNSS sat in 240x24000 km (GTO) because its max payload capacity is 1300 kgs for GTO (refer attached PSLVvariants pic) and lift-off wt of the sat is around 1400-1425 kgs (from various isro ppts). HP version on the other hand has the required launch capacity (1440 kgs to GTO).

The two spare IRNSS sats will be launched into the 19140 km circular (i = 64.8 deg.) orbit by the GSLV MK2c (4 stages with PAM-G being the fourth stage, refer meo mission and PAM-G-Hot test)

That was originally planned for two Russian GLONASS Uragan-M?

Yes you are right. I got it wrong from the attached slide. Or May be ISRO is planning the 2 spare IRNSS sats (apart from the 7 sats to be launched by PSLV) in the same 19100 km orbit?

PSLV-C17 an XL version carried GSAT-12 which was 1450 Kg

Yes! You are right. I think it is the special orbit (not the payload weight) that mandates ISRO to use PSLV-HP (incl improved 4th stage with PAM-G) instead of XL version.

Thx
