amon - 24/3/2006 5:19 PMThat's unusual for an unmanned vehicle. Are you saying strictly thrust termination and no destruct?

Nick L. - 24/3/2006 6:23 PMI'm new, so please forgive my ignorance. How does the thermal blanket separation work and why is it necessary for the blanket to separate?I was really hoping that the Falcon would work; very sad to see that it didn't. Did anyone notice that it seemed to be falling horizontally (parallel to the sea), rolling before the feed cut out? I wish the best to SpaceX and hope they can find out what went wrong as soon as possible. Nick

Tap-Sa - 24/3/2006 5:32 PMQuoteNick L. - 25/3/2006 1:23 AM How does the thermal blanket separation work and why is it necessary for the blanket to separate? It's attached to the vehicle using velcro straps and a lanyard pulls it off during liftoff. If it doesn't come off (or just partially) the loose blanket wreaks havoc on vehicle aerodynamics.
