Apollo 8 memory on TV
« on: 01/19/2014 03:47 pm »
At the end of CBS News Face the Nation this morning, anchor Bob Schieffer showed a clip of an interview with the crew of Apollo 8 following their lunar orbital flight. CDR Frank Borman addressed a question about the cost of the space program, calling it "technical insurance for the future." Schieffer then noted that in those days, NASA's budget was about 4% of the overall federal budget, whereas today it is half of 1 percent.

A bit unusual to see that kind of lip-service paid to NASA these days...pretty welcome.
