Another missile test by the Chinese military, what the hell are the Americans doing?

"China’s military continued its string of strategic missile flight tests on Monday by firing off a third intercontinental ballistic missile in four weeks", does anyone knows the dates of the previous two missile launches?

on July 24th and August 16th

Thank you beidou!

I believe the first one is the launch of Yaogan 8 on December 15, 2009 (02:31 UTC), while the second one is the launch of HY-1B on April 11, 2007 (03:27 UTC).

Is January Chinese ASAT Testing Month?

January 4, 2013
Gregory Kulacki, China project manager and senior analyst

Quote
In 2007 and 2010 China conducted anti-satellite (ASAT) weapons tests, both on January 11. Rumors circulating for the past few months suggest that some within the U.S. defense and intelligence community believe China is preparing to conduct another ASAT test.

The first media report on these rumors appeared in October. China’s Ministry of Defense challenged the information in that report, but in November contacts in China told us an announcement about an upcoming ASAT test was circulated within the Chinese government. We were unable to find a public statement confirming plans for a test in the Chinese media or on publicly accessible Chinese government websites. Then, just before Christmas, a high-ranking U.S. defense official told us that the Obama administration was very concerned about an imminent Chinese ASAT test.

Given these high-level administration concerns, and past Chinese practice, there seems to be a strong possibility China will conduct an ASAT test within the next few weeks. What kind of test and what the target might be is unclear...

Apparently, there was no such test on Jan 11.

Maybe the anti-China brigade will start to claim that there was an ASAT launch but it failed ..........

On January 12 various Chinese media reported about a salvo launch by PLA Second Artillery of more then 10 missiles. Clearly no Asat related but nevertheless a remarkable event.

And here a video link: http://news.cntv.cn/2013/01/12/VIDE1357989853205208.shtml

FWIW, there's what appears to be a group of targets some 240 km to the northwest of that, around 39.143 N, 88.617 E. The area has been heavily imaged by DigitalGlobe since 2004 and, somewhat bizarrely, has what appears to be a recently-built model of an Eiffel-like tower at 39.1484 N, 88.5973 E.

Edit: There's another such tower nearby at 39.1491 N, 88.6152 E, next to a heavily impacted target cross.  Instrumentation towers for observing terminal weapons effects???
