Old style STS flight numbers

I've been wondering how flight numbers for fiscal years 1990 and thereafter would have looked like if NASA had continued using the old style flight numbers (41-B or 61-A, for example). If the first digit represented the FY, would the first flight of FY 90 be ... 01-A? And what about 1994? A second 41-B, or what?
No wonder NASA quickly discarded of that numbering system when they reorganized the shuttle program ...

I think it would have run as follows:
1986: 61 (KSC) and 62 (VAFB)
1987: 71 and 72
1988: 81 and 82
1989: 91 and 92
1990: 101 and 102
1991: 111 and 112
1992: 121 and 122
1993: 131 and 132
1994: 141 and 142
etc etc
Confusing, huh?

No, actually not. It makes perfect sense assuming the "4" int 41-B does not refer to FY '84 but rather to the nth FY of shuttle operations. So here we have probably uncovered a common misconception. It's a coincidence that the fourth FY of operations si also FY 84, the fifth is FY 85 and so forth.
Thanks!

So, what would that make the recently-returned STS-114?
STS-251-A?
I think I prefer the devil that I already know...
