I got through building the S-IC tonight. I was very impressed with the studs not on top technique but I was also very pleasantly surprised by the visual cues they made with the different colored interior blocks (blue, green, etc) that made it easier to correlate the instructions to the model.

Yes and yes, it is really an ingenious construction. so many places where you just go "ahh, that's clever..." - Like the way the corrugated "belly band" is attached. It explained a rather baffling interior design.

Hello guys,
very interesting to see that you are fully busy and excited.
Today finally came the birthday gift for my grandson Max, which I bought on May 31st, who will surely be in for a surprise.

But do not worry, the box remains closed,   because I will not be distracted from my MLP.

This is the result of finishing 3 bags of the Saturn V. I have 9 bags to go. I had attached the assemblies with the USA lettering and engine pods to the framework wrongly and had to practically start over. It was a challenge getting the first stage assembled to the point where it was strong enough not to fall apart, but I did it.

Additional pics from S-II construction. I had to redo part of the stage after the first pic was taken as I had inserted something the wrong way.

You certainly must have done something wrong if it "was a challenge getting the first stage assembled to the point where it was strong enough not to fall apart". The whole construction is very solid and gives an almost monolithic feel to the rocket. - Good to see you got back on track.

Hah. I saw that firsthand: went into my local Lego Store last week on a weekday morning and asked about it. The guy said that they had just gotten a shipment of 30 of them. While I was standing there less than five minutes, they sold six. On a weekday morning.

Any other nuggets you heard at the convention?

Not that would be on topic for this thread... :)

Was this on the LEGO web site? They haven't even let anyone do backorders on the Saturn V for weeks. So glad I found another source when I did

yep, back ordered it at the beginning of the month.  Got all my payment and shipping notices....opened the box and only one was in there.  Since there was no other tracking number and the order said closed, I contacted Lego and they basically replied "sorry about that....we are out of them now and dont know if we will ever get any in".  The funny thing was they had no idea I had only gotten one.  You would think the guy packing them would know how to count.

Did anyone else think this peculiar? The S-IVB stage has what appears to be three instrument units stacked on top of it instead of just one. To preserve the correct overall height the SLA angle had to be greater to compensate. The only reason I could think of for doing this was so that the lunar module would fit on top of the S-IVB if desired. It really doesn't spoil the overall effect; I just thought it an interesting compromise.

The Instrument Unit is the black line, if I am correct
