These types of issues are like a Rorschach test; people see them different ways depending on their underlying attitude. Some see lunar dust as a reason not to even attempt long-term lunar habitats while others see it as an engineering challenge to be overcome. I fall in the latter category.

Too hostile?  There are a lot of places on earth that are of questionable habitability due to pollution where people live all the time.  It is simply an engineering problem waiting to be solved.
