I’ve updated F-SIM Space Shuttle to version 2.0.
New features include external views (chase plane, tower, runway threshold,…), a replay option and optional (virtual) analog stick controls.

The update is free if you’ve purchased an earlier version. It’s also on sale for just $0.99 during Atlantis’s final mission.

If you like the update, please rate/review the new version on the App Store.

Here are a few screenshots (iPhone 4 and iPad 2—the app runs on older hardware too)

It’s available on the App Store

Is there any chance of seeing it released for Windows Phone 7? (Managed to let my family buy one of the least popular smart phones with disappointingly few apps)

We are working on Android and WebOS (HP TouchPad) versions (I can’t promise anything at this time though). They all use OpenGL ES for the 3D graphics, so porting should be relatively straightforward. MS of course uses Direct3D (and not even C) so we’d basically have to rewrite it from scratch. I actually think it is an interesting platform, but given the poor sales figures of WP7 so far I’m afraid that’s not on top of our to-do list.

Now that the external views are implemented, I’ve finally managed to make a little trailer:

Recorded directly from an iPad 2 via HDMI video mirroring. I hope you like it.

By far the most requested feature in version 2.0 is the drag chute (although fully simulated, it is not visible in the external views).
So that’s what I’ve been working on (along with some other improvements). It’s still work in progress, but here’s an early test animation (captured from an iPad 2):

Click on “Watch on YouTube”, select full-screen, and 720p to watch it in HD

Please let me know what you think.

Version 2.2 is here! (Note that it may take up to 24 hours until the update becomes available on the AppStore).

Here’s what’s new in this version:

• Approach path “corridor” view. I think this is a great help for newcomers. Advanced pilots can turn it off in the view settings and focus on the guidance and flight-director symbols in the HUD.

• Fully animated 3D drag chute. This has been by far the most requested feature. It took some time to get it right, I hope you like it.

• Improved 3D model of Atlantis.

• High-res textures on the Orbiter and the virtual cockpit (on all devices that support 2048x2048 pixel textures).

• Vibrate on touchdown (iPhone only, can be turned off).

• A news page.

• Minor bug fixes and enhancements.

I hope you like it!
(If you do, please don’t forget to rate it).

I just downloaded this game a week ago, and I have almost 200 landings.

Amazing, amazing app!

Version 2.4 just hit the AppStore (it’s a free update).

With full support for the new iPad’s retina display (it renders at an incredible resolution of 2048x1536 pixels), wingtip vortices, and new camera perspectives.

I hope you like it!

Yes, we’re working on an Android port. No release date yet though.

I wish I could afford an iPad. First thing I'd get is this.

Heh, was a Christmas/Birthday present - to help me study. Needless to say, with this app, not much studying gets done. :D

And I've just discovered the replay feature - now I can make my own Shuttle landing movies. :) :)

Simply awesome app. I finally received my first "perfect" landing for 857k points. It only too me 35 good landings and a few not so good landings :)  to get there. But man what a challenge and great fun.
