There was an article on a Utah news website yesterday about a resolution the state made trying to convince NASA to place their new commercial drone testing facility in the west Utah desert.  The article mentioned that congress wants NASA to decide on a site by April 15, 2017, and that there were other sites in Texas, California, and New York also under consideration.

Does anyone have information on other sites being considered, or more information about the general requirements for the new facility? Or any other thoughts on the topic, generally?

Is there a space flight element to this anywhere? :)
No, not that I'm aware of.
