My understanding from the article is that the work on LC-40 will be completed in August, and then they will work on 39A again to prepare for the maiden flight of Falcon Heavy.  The work on 39A will take at least 60 days, which will put the completion date in October or after.  This means that the launchpad construction crew would not be available to work at Boca Chica until after October.  However, it seems like preliminary earth moving and construction would need to happen before that, so maybe we'll see some construction activity at Boca Chica during the summer.

Right.

Not only do they need to build a launch pad, they also need to build a control center.  According to the EIS, there will be 9 buildings in all, including 2 hangars, 2 payload processing buildings, etc., with sophisticated clean room air conditioning requirements.  As far as I know, none of this requires the launch pad specialists currently busy at the cape.

AIUI, the FH work will be mostly on the TEL side. So most of the rest of the pad people should be able to go to Boca Chica as soon as LC-40 is commissioned.

SpaceX Job posting still active after 11 weeks.

Kind of surprising. Why would this be difficult to fill?

We've talked about this before - ultimately comes down to not enough money to offset living in a very out of the way corner of the country doing a very physically active job. I mentioned before I have a friend who'd be a great fit but field environmental engineering is onerous, time consuming and frankly a pain in the ass. My friend gave it up after several years in order to raise her family and run her own farm instead. A let less money raising chickens and selling goats, but a lot more personal satisfaction. *shrug*

I looked back through the thread and couldn't find anything on the landing facilities for this launch complex. I know that they will have and ASDS and they would probably use it a lot due to this facility being planned for GTO commsat launches, but does anybody know where they might plan to put a LZ-1 style area?

You won't find anything but speculation since SpaceX hasn't said anything on the matter.

True, but would we expect them to at this point?

It's Dave G's educated speculation, and is based around SpaceX's plans to build a land bridge southwest of the pad. See this post.

Since FHs can launch from the site, they will almost certainly have a landing zone

It's fine to have that *opinion* (which I share), but remember you're posting to and between an educated audience that includes people who not only work or have worked in the space industry, but also people who make it their hobby to parse through regulatory documents like FCC and FAA licenses, EPA Environmental Impact Statements and state property records to keep what we all OPINE distinct and separate from what we KNOW.

Then it might behoove you to add, "... in my opinion," "... I believe," or even "... I think" to such statements as the one I quoted, rather than stating something definitive in a thread filled with such folks.

In Ian's defense, I read "they will almost certainly have" as "odds are they will need", but YMMV.

Also, why not flip the expectation? It's a public internet forum, and not L2. I assume everything written here is the author's opinion or speculation unless explicitly stated otherwise.

They do. The job described is basically an environmental field engineer - there's a fairly well-established industry for such folks doing Superfund remediation, especially of old mining and industrial sites. The specific skills asked for here are not that uncommon for those doing wetlands remediation and work around former shipbuilding/shipbreaking sites.
