Private/Public funding for commercial crew
« on: 07/23/2015 01:03 AM »
I seem to remember reading a while back - and I could be wrong - that the commercial partners contributed 50% of the funds with COTS. Recently, I heard that NASA is paying 90% of the development funds for Commercial Crew. There has also been talk about SNC having "the most skin in the game" and Boeing having the least. So does anyone have any figures on how much company funds have been spent across CCDev1&2 and CCiCap? Or at least just proportions of public/private investment for each vehicle?  Do Boeing and SpaceX intend to contribute any funds as part of CCtCap?

Also, NASA now has unfunded SSAs with Blue and SNC. How much overhead does NASA spend for that?

No the exact percentage were never released. For unfunded SAAs, NASA spends time helping the partner but it doesn't transfer any funds to them.

Which, considering the amount spent on "administering" the COTS program, is most likely tens of millions of dollars. People treat unfunded SAAs like they're free, they're not.

Jeff Bezos has billions to spend on rockets and can go at whatever pace he likes! Wow! What pace is he going at? Well... have you heard of Zeno's paradox?

They're awesome. But they're misnamed.
