Is there a designation for the capsule (or manned program)?

What a difference 50+ years in electronics technology advancements make.  If this is a serious concept with some real technology development, there's a lot of empty space in there.

Wonder if North Korea will have anything to say?  Will that four-engine launcher need a more powerful second stage to orbit a manned capsule?

The hatch looks very insubstantial, with no visible latches and flimsy hinges.  I think this is a mockup.

Agreed, although the door looked far too 'square' to me to be a real pressure hatch.
I thought Aerospace learned the hard way 60 years ago not to make square windows in yer hull - someone send Iran the memo!

Hopefully our great nations can solve their political differences and welcome Iran to the family of spacefaring nations.

When does Iran think the capsule will be ready for launch, test or manned?

How cute!! It reminds me of the tiny 1-person capsule from the anime Rocket Girls. I wonder if that's where they got their inspiration?

Even if this is a serious program, that is a mockup, and early mockups often leave out a lot of details and don't look like final flight vehicles. Figure that if they go through with this, they will fill that space with stuff like survival gear, food lockers, etc.

It looks to have an interior space about 50 cubic feet, about the same as Mercury, except its not loaded with any instruments or supplies.   The layout is more efficient than Soyuz, in the sense that Soyuz has more internal volume, but not where the crew sits (there is a lot of volume up by the hatch, but that can't be used during launch and landing).

This design provides more legroom during launch and landing, at the expense of floating around room during orbital flight.

A good comparison would be with Gemini, which had only 40 cubic feet per passenger, albeit in a "cleaner" environment than Mercury.

It will be interesting to know what the flight weight, duration and maneuverability are planned.  There appears to be a separate reentry and systems module that has at least notional propellent tankage.  Certainly the avionics would be a vast improvement over Mercury/Vostok.   I wouldn't expect much more than a 24 hour flight duration, nor much need for extended duration since this is surely just for prestige and initial technology development.  Wonder how far Iran can afford to develop this?

Since Iran has worked with North Korea on launcher technology, I would not be the least surprised if NK is also on board with their version of this manned space craft, for the same prestige/propaganda goals.

If successful, it might inspire some other small national or independent group development, apart from the known Danish group (but that's just suborbital, isn't it?).

They'll need that 4 engine rocket, if not with strap-ons another big program.  Wonder what the project development timelines and goals are?

Separate question: what launch azimuths can Iran fly to from their known facilities?  I can imagine Pakistan and India might be antsy about overflights with ever-bigger rockets.

Iran will probably fly South East over the Indian ocean, to avoid any problems with stages falling on land.

From a propaganda point-of-view, it would be interesting if Iran can put a man into orbit before the US manages to fly their next crew from US territory.

But, as with with the Indian human programme, what do the Iranians plan to do once they have someone in orbit?   Are there any long-term plans other than "a man in a can" for prestige?

Which launch vehicle will that be expected to be on?  Wouldn't the real capsule be too heavy to launch on current launchers?

I think current safir without 2nd stage will be enough for a suborbital mission ...

Iran designing manned spacecraft able of returning astronomer to earth

http://isna.ir/en/news/93122615120/Iran-designing-manned-spacecraft-able-of

Quote
Design of the spacecraft includes three phases of conceptual design, preliminary design and detailed design, and the mock-up has been built based on the results of the first two phases. Iranian experts at Space Exploration Systems Research Center are conducting the third phase of the study.

The third phase includes building, assembling and testing flight models, launching operations and interpreting the results

Is my understanding correct that when the E1 spaceship is essentially the Iranian Mercury (without deorbit capability, that is), the SRISAT satellite shown with it is Iranian MS-1?

Liss, I don't know what you are referring to by "SRISAT" and "MS-1".

As the capsule will not be used for docking, there is no docking adapter, just like in Mercury. That will probably come later if Iran builds a larger capsule.

SRISAT is a satellite unveiled on February 17 with the E1 spaceship according to the news item linked earlier ( http://isna.ir/fa/news/93112815744/مدل-فضاپیمای-سرنشین-دار-و-ماهواره-مخابراتی ). I cannot cope with Farsi easy enough to understand the details but my impression was that the SRISAT mission is to check the Iranian ground stations in the same way as Mercury Scout 1 was supposed to do for Project Mercury.

apparently, nothing ....ever.

This reminds me of the Almaz capsule, which was not designed to dock with anything, but that constraint proved to be a real problem years later.

Thanks Liss. I didn't know about Mercury Scout 1 before, probably because it failed to achieve orbit. From that link, I learnt the following.

SRISAT stands for Space Research Institute Satellite.
Its a communications research satellite.
It can send and receive SMS messages to test ground stations and future satellites.
It will be launched by Safir 1.

There is also mention of SRISAT having made Nahid with GaAs solar panels of 30% efficiency.

It seems to me that SRISAT is for testing generic communication systems, not those solely applicable to E1.

SRISAT stands for Space Research Institute Satellite.
I'm not so sure even if the name suggests this. The Farsi Wikipedia entry on Space Research Institute says... damn, this forum seems to not support Farsi correctly so I'd put is as a picture below.

In the Farsi language report on E1 and SRISAT we can see the "green" name.

I'd add a quote from MEHR report on 18 Farvardin 1391 (April 6, 2012) which explicitly says that former ARI became ISRC:
