This thread is dedicated to the coming Yaogan-18 launch from Taiyuan in October, though it has been changed several times for different potential launches only based on wild guesses.

Although not proof, of course, the Shijian 6 pairs were launched during September-November.   I wondered what happened to that programme!

Hmm...it doesn't look like it's SJ-13 either, since it was reported that SJ-13 has just went into advanced design stage this year. SJ-something else?  :-\

So, no SJ-13 launch this year!

Shijian 13 or another task, but Yuanwang 5 left Jakarta and on Sep 14 passed Sunda Strait into Indian Ocean. Last time a launch occured seven days after this.
This message reflects my personal opinion based on open sources of information.

Could the potential launch in Jiuquan ( rumors for a schedule in late September) carrying a Yaogan satellite? If so, this should be Yaogan-18.
Let's see what will happen in the next few days.

Offline Galactic Penguin SST

It looks like the payload(s) (rumors pointing to these being the SJ-6 series follow-on) will be launched on a CZ-4 series rocket out of Jiuquan (probably the CZ-4C, since its launch team was explicitly mentioned to be busy preparing launches between Jiuquan and Taiyuan over the rest of the year, as recent as today following the FY-3C launch).

If so this is very surprising - they could have used Taiyuan if the orbit is sun-synchronous, but they went with Jiuquan instead. Either it is going for the classical NOSS orbit (which would be strange since the satellite(s) are explicitly mentioned as separate from the "Chinese NOSS" series), or..................

............... could it be going Molniya (a la Jumpseat/Trumpet)!? I wonder, I wonder.........  ::)

We now have confirmation that YG-18 is at Taiyuan right now: http://bbs.9ifly.cn/thread-12645-1-1.html

If the number of rocket variants reported early this year still holds true, this launch (should be within this month) would most probably be handled by either a CZ-4B or a CZ-2C. Let's see which one is correct.....  ::)

The rocket has already been attached to the launch pad, per source on Chinese online forum (http://bbs.9ifly.cn/forum.php?mod=redirect&goto=findpost&ptid=12645&pid=268917&fromuid=24484).

Sources are now reporting that this should launch "within a week".

With the recent SJ-16 launch being handled by a CZ-4B I now believe this should go up on a CZ-4C - could be a similar satellite as YG-8/15 or something new.

Some rumors that this launch could take place as early as to-morrow (Chinese Standard Time)

Unfortunately still no indication of the launcher type - I think CZ-4C is most likely, but a CZ-2C is also possible....

As usual I'll be on the watch tomorrow for any updates.  8)

When you mean tomorrow, you mean the early UTC hours?

Apparently it was launched successfully at 02:50 UTC on top of a CZ-2C - more news to follow soon.  ;)

China launches remote-sensing satellite
English.news.cn   2013-10-29 11:33:07

TAIYUAN, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Yaogan XVIII remote-sensing satellite was successfully launched on Tuesday from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China's Shanxi Province, according to a press release from the center.

The satellite was launched at 10:50 a.m. on the back of a Long March 2C carrier rocket, according to the center.

The satellite will be used to conduct scientific experiments, carry out land surveys, monitor crop yields and aid in preventing and reducing natural disasters.

The launch marked the 183th mission for the Long March rocket family.

A first object has been catalogued by USSTRATCOM:
39363/2013-059A in 350 x 525 km x 97.31° (epoch Oct 29, 0524UTC)

Offline Galactic Penguin SST

First object from this launch has been found by NORAD in a 350 x 525 km x 97.31° orbit - probably it's the 2nd stage of the CZ-2C rocket. This almost certainly confirms that it is a replacement of YG-6, launched in April 2009.
