That was a really nice video. The gray color shows so well inside. Can you  imagine this first vehicle as an ICBM in the MAB serviced by military personnel prior to rollout to a launch pad?

Off topic I know but compare the R-7 ICBM size (Soyuz in video) to it's contemporary Atlas ICBM.

Once again the source of information was Novosti Kosmonavtiki.
Perhaps they should move away from just static archives of past issues and instead produce some sort of internet encyclopaedia?

So either 112 is incorrect... Or this is the first one out of sequence...

I think that number is correct - Ю15000-112 (one of the numbers out of sequence - the rocket made by 1 year later?)

Number fairings (from the pictures) and the number of rocket
M-65                          Ш15000-111
M-67    Ю15000-079?  Ю15000-112
M-02M  Ш15000-080   ?                   (I think Ш15000-113)
M-01M  Ш15000-081   Ш15000-114
M-66    Ю15000-082   Ю15000-115

According to my source:
11А511У-ПВБ №Ц15000-113 Прогресс М-02М
Ц - this is correct?

Progress M-03M launch vehicle was Þ15000-120.
Soyuz TMA-16 launch vehicle was Á15000-029.
It's sort of historic because launches of R-7 ICBM began in 1957 with number Ì1-5 through Ì1-12 and continued in 1958 with Á1-13.
Since then, the numbering made two full rounds beginning with Á ("Beh"), first in 1958 and second in 1985. Now we see the beginning of the third full round.

There were until recently two available sources of Novosti Kosmonavtiki on-line - both showed the same 77045865. As I don't understand these numbers I did not change it.

They still show this. I ask Novosti Kosmonavtiki give us The Russian internet space encyclopaedia!

So should 71612697 Molniya-3 - October 1996 be 71612679?

Progress M-03M launch vehicle was Ю15000-120.
Soyuz TMA-16 launch vehicle was Б15000-029.
It's sort of historic because launches of R-7 ICBM began in 1957 with number М1-5 through М1-12 and continued in 1958 with and Б1-13.
Since then, the numbering made two full rounds beginning with Б ("Beh"), first in 1958 and second in 1985. Now we see the beginning of the third full round.

I have come to the conclusion that these letters mean more then year of release, or production. And are either on a 27 year cycle or 14?

I had already spotted Ю15000-120, but Б for 2009... now I am confused...

My best guess
1958 & 1985 - Б
1959 & 1986 - И
1960 & 1987 - Л
1961 & 1988 - Е
1962 & 1989 - Т
1963 & 1990 - Г
1964 & 1991 - Р
1965 & 1992 - У
1966 & 1993 - Н
1967 & 1994 - Я
1969 & 1996 - Х
1970 & 1997 - С
1971 & 1998 - М
1972 & 1999 - А
1973 & 2000 - К
1974 & 2001 - Ф
1975 & 2002 - Э
1976 & 2003 - Д
1977 & 2004 - Ж
1978 & 2005 - П
1979 & 2006 - Ц
1980 & 2007 - Ш
1981 & 2008 - Ю

I don't know for sure but my impression is that length of the cycle and the order of letters to the end of it differs slightly :-)

My version based on the first launch of a letter is as follows...

1958 & 1985 - Á
1959 & 1986 - È
1960 & 1987 - Ë
1961 & 1988 - Å
1962 & 1989 - Ò
1963 & 1990 - Ã
1964 & 1991 - Ð
1965 & 1992 - Ó
1966 & 1993 - Í
1967 & 1994 - ß
without changes to this place and then...
1968 & 1995 = Â
1969 (only) = Þ
1970 & 1996 = Õ
1971 & 1997 = Ñ (but no known launches until 1972)
1972 & 1998 = Ì
1973 & 1999 = À (but no known launches until 1974 and 2000 resp.)
1974 & 2000 = Ê
1975 & 2001 = Ô
1976 & 2002 = Ý
1977 & 2003 = Ä
1978 = ¨ (or Å again or both; but I've personally seen a steering device in the Kaluga space museum with a number starting with ¨ so this is not an error)
1979 & 2004 = Æ
1980 & 2005 = Ï
1981 & 2006 = Ö
1982-1984 = Ø, Ù and Þ again (both Ø and Ù were reportedly used in 1982 with Þ starting flying in 1983)
2007 = Ø
2008 = Þ

Stan Black,
can you color highlight the estimated serial numbers from
actually recorded (authenticated) serial numbers?

Thank you.

Another confusing thing is that R-7 are also refered to as the following

10М127С
10th machine of 127th series - 8K78M Н15000-294 Interbol-1

38th machine of 132nd series - 11A511U-PVB 14F138 Liana Lotos-S

12th machine of 133rd series - Soyuz-2.1B 14F137 Persona

What a wonderful source of information this forum is!

You should all be so proud.

Resurs-DK launched by П15000-096 the 34th rocket of the 132nd series. Now which rocket was intended for Resurs-DK and delivered in 2004*?

sounds like historical info that should be added to Jonathan McDowell space history database! ::)

Working on it. Will be in next release, maybe late this year.

So reading past posts...

http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=11009.0
Soyuz-U Ц15000-106 was sitting around in Baikonur since Progress M-60 and finally used for Progress M-63?

http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=12436.0;all
And two Soyuz-U, Ш15000-110 and Ш15000-114 were available for Progress M-64?
