You Know You're A Space Geek When...
« on: 10/22/2007 01:31 AM »
Thought we might have a little fun with this one.  I'll start.

You know you're a space geek when...

*  While looking at the preheat countdown timer on your oven, you know exactly what would be      happening during the terminal count of shuttle at that precise moment.

*  You tend to call out sick from work the day of a shuttle launch.  (I feel sniffle coming on!)

 :o

Wouldn't be the first time!! ;)

The first time I ever missed a class in college was during my sophomore year, when I cut Philosophy to watch the first shuttle-Mir rendezvous on STS-63!

You're sitting in a room within LCC listening to the loops for the ongoing STS-120 countdown AND reporting on it to NSF :)

You stock up on toner cartridges and cartons of paper when they're on sale to keep from running out printing the manuals and checklists on L2 for the current and next missions.

Mine agrees but several times daily for me

She said it also applies when you watch a football game and a baseball game with PIP and have a laptop to check the forums

When you have 3 TV's in the same room to watch the first shuttle launch on all 3 networks (pre cable/sat TV days)

When your parents plan a family vacation that goes to JSC AND KSC since you might be too busy in the future to go on family vacations

Alright, sorry to break the rhythm, but I'm watching the Redsox Indians game and I saw a DirecTV commercial that shows some massive satellite smashing into other satellites. Well, I could have sworn one of the objects it knocked passed escape velocity was a soyuz capsule (it was pretty obvious). Anyways this really ticked me off, I mean if they showed a space shuttle getting hit by something I'd hope that people would object. I really don't see any difference between the destruction of a shuttle and a soyuz except for the fact that a shuttle would have more people getting killed by this commercial satellite for the sake of us Americans getting a few more channels.

Oh yes that was a Soyuz.  Saw it on the Race coverage today as well

anyway back to the topic at hand...

*you postpone any job applications until the STS-120 launch happens

*you have a space shuttle launch as a desktop background

*you wear a choker with a space shuttle ornament on it

*you have shuttle launches as cover sheets for you class binders

*you have DVDs of shuttle launches

*you think "shuttle launch" anytime you see/hear someone/somthing counting backwards

*you adjust your steering wheel, lock the doors, and check your mirrors is if it's part of a launch countdown
T-10...9...8...7...we're go for main engine start...4...3...2...1...0 and liftoff of Shuttle Daedalus as the National Aerospace System celebrates its 25th mission.

* you spend all class designing your own rockets and space stations in MS paint...
* ... and then model, texture, animate, and code them into Orbiter addons.
* attempt to bring countdowns into every aspect of life.

"you strongly believe PRCB meetings should be televised on prime time network TV.

"have an over-riding urge to punch anyone who says a shuttle launch is boring.

"your working on an article that's based on IPRs of leaks at the pad at 4am, at home, in a front room that looks like this:

your wife is already in bed and she's stiring with thoughts that I'm downloading dirty movies, when really I'm downloading cool stuff from L2.

Show her one of those "dirty" reentry videos.
