Landing/Recovery at the Andamans
« on: 04/11/2017 08:07 am »
I wanted to ask about the idea of using the Andaman Islands for RLV landing and recovery after launch from the mainland (Sriharikota). I'd heard Dr Sivan mention the idea in an interview with Pallava Bagla on NDTV.  I just wanted to know how feasible the idea is, and what kind of constraints it would impose.

SpaceX and Blue Origin have the goal of using barges/ships as landing platforms for their RLVs, as a fuel-saving alternative to RTLS. But meanwhile India has the convenience of a less-populated easterly island wing at a distance from its mainland, which not so many countries have, to serve as a potential landing point for a recoverable vehicle.

How serious might ISRO be about an idea like this, and is it feasible?
