Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) has requested Oct. 23 on the 45th Space Wing’s calendar for launch of its second Falcon 9 rocket, which will aim to place a Dragon cargo capsule into orbit.
The WorldView-3 satellite is scheduled for launch in 2014. Ball and ITT built the three DigitalGlobe satellites currently in orbit.
The company's Commercial Launch Services marketing arm has arranged a deal to boost the GeoEye 2 spacecraft to orbit in late 2012 from Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.A 401-configuration of the Atlas 5 will be used for the GeoEye 2 mission to reach a Sun-synchronous orbit covering the planet from pole to pole.
WASHINGTON — Hawthorne, Calif.-based Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) has shifted a planned Oct. 23 launch of its Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon cargo vessel to November. “Our targeted launch date is moving — we’ve submitted a request for November 8th or 9th and are waiting for the range to complete their standard deconfliction work and provide a formal approval,” SpaceX spokeswoman Kirstin Brost said in a Sept. 21 e-mail.
