As HV noted, there's currently a 60 percent weather violation tomorrow (Friday).

I know this is no fun for those who went to watch the launch, or those that worked it, but that was exciting. Almost reminded me a bit of the shaky hands feeling one used to get ahead of a Shuttle launch!

Completely agree. Now, is it rescheduled for 24h to the original window or to now?

Aerospace made the right call. If you aren't sure, don't risk the vehicle and payload.

Aerospace is RED.

Wonderful  :(

Oh well, thanks so much for your input  :)

Remind us what "Aerospace" monitors, and what would cause it to go RED?

They better be sure that they knew what they were doing because:

A.  If they are right, it reflects bad on ULA
B.  If they are wrong, it reflects bad on them and cost the USAF some bucks

This only applies if the call was due to an LV issue, spacecraft is another thing.  Then it is between the spacecraft contractor and Aerospace

I hope Sen. Glenn makes it back for the Atlas launch. I saw those two names together 50 years ago and would like to say I saw it again. :)

Should have let this one fly. End of the window made some people sweat.

Official reason is a scrub due to winds aloft.

Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. (Feb. 16, 2012) – The launch of an Atlas V carrying the United States Navy’s Mobile User Objective System-1 (MUOS-1) payload was scrubbed today due to weather conditions associated with upper level winds.

The Atlas V vehicle and MUOS are safe and secure at this time. The launch is rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 17 from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. The opening of the launch window is 5:42 p.m. EST and extends until 6:26 p.m. The forecast for Feb. 17 shows a 40 percent chance of favorable weather conditions for the launch tomorrow.

As AC-67 taught us, if the weather isn't within the flight rules, a scrub is preferable to risking a failure.

There "isn't" one.  The relationship is between Aerospace and USAF.
Aerospace is the USAF's GSE&I contractor for space systems.

The Department of Defense has identified five core competencies for the Aerospace FFRDC*: launch certification, system-of-systems engineering, systems development and acquisition, process implementation, and technology application.

So everyone's on the same page. We'll start Friday's updates for this launch on this thread, as a continuation.

In the meantime, review William Graham's extensive preview article, which is now into Rev 2 with an additional 1,200 words on Centaur!:

Well, it certainly was right down to the wire, and as others have mentioned, you want to fly safe.

Yeah, feel bad to those who went to see it in person, and I too hope John Glenn can stay around until it launches.

Besides, weekend launches often allow greater opportunity for a larger viewing audience  :)
