Thanks for sharing...!

The house with the green roof (picture #79) is where Gagarin slept the night prior to his launch, isn't it?

What buildings are showed on pictures #63 and #83 ?

Cheers

Yes. #78 and #79 are Gagarin's house, #80 and #81 - Korolyov's house.

What buildings are showed on pictures #63 and #83?

#63 is the Gagarin's launch complex on site 1, #83 is one of Energia's hotels on site 2.

I would love to go to Russia to see a Soyuz / Proton launch someday.  I saw STS-131 launch in person and I want to add a Russian rocket to my portfolio.  Manned or unmanned.  Maybe we can get a group together and have a big field trip!  Anyone got any ideas?

This begs the question as to whether its possible to visit the city of Baikonur for tourism, as opposed to going to a launch.

Jakob Terweij [[email protected]] has accomplished this, and reported to the fpspace list [July 19, 2011 5:23 AM]:

Dear friends,
I finally have all info. I went with them last april to baikonur for
one week. I arrived by train and left by plane.  Check their site
www.cosmotur.ru for train and plain schedules and hotel. I stayed in
Studenteskaya  very good 50$ a day. Planes from Moscow to Baikonur
only on friday and tuesday. See www.uralairlines.ru  The E-mail on the
comotur site does not work  you must use the one in Elina's mail
(thats headquarters in Hotel Centralnaya in Baikonur)
Anybody that need help  I am available.
Jakob

PS I am now going to the launch of TMA 22 and I think  one week
Baikonur with plane return moscow -baikonur and all tours will not
cost me more than 1000 euro's.  I will check train tickets prices when
/i am in Moscow next Month.

4923656745 = Sirius FM-6
5115656746 = EchoStar 16
