Looks like the manned SZ-12 Shenzhou-12 might be launched in 2017 and dock to TG-2 Tiangong-2.

Check the thread on here for the Chinese launch schedule.   A philately organisation has listed the 2016-2017 launches for which covers will be available.

Thanks! Yes, it's a good source if we assume that stamp collectors have good information that the post office will issue such stamps and post office has reliable information about the launches.

This is good news, and seems to originate from a semi-official, and therefore presumably, reliable source, so hopefully it means that there will a manned SZ-12 visit to TG-2 in 2017.

Although previous statements have only ever mentioned a single manned visit (SZ-11) this had always looked like a rather unambitious schedule, something of a waste of resources and seemed to leave no room for contingency, or recovery, if any element of SZ-11 was less than 100% successful.

Also, flying two x SZ, plus one x TZ more or less replicates the TG-1 campaign, with three visiting missions.

There seem to be rumours of a female presence on this mission.   I wonder if this could be an all-female crew?   Or two women and a man?

Also there is some talk on an EVA on the flight.   I have the attached photo in my computer files but I cannot recall where it's from.   It appears to show a Shenzhou/Tiangong EVA, with the Shenzhou forward module being used as an airlock.   First Chinese EVA by a woman?

Looks like since the two spacecraft aren't docked its the classic Soviet era procedure for failed docking event that dates back to Almaz/Saylut days when there wasnt permanent crew on board and when stations lack an airlock to fix the issues.

I agree about the spacecraft not being docked but I wondered if this was simply an error by the non-technical artist?

It is certainly suggestive that the Chinese might not have separate airlocks on their space station modules and that the Shenzhou forward module might fulfill the role.   Anyway, I thought it was worth showing the picture.

The Chinese are still talking about SZ 11 as being the only piloted mission to Tiangong 2.   If SZ 12 flies I would expect it will be after Tianzhou 1 has undocked from Tiangong 2.

SZ-12 "Shenzhou-12" will be launched to "Tiangong-2." Next to the "Tiangong-2" will fly the cargo ship "Tianzhou-1." After some work in the astronauts will fly to the module docking with the cargo vehicle and then again return to the "Tiangong-2." The flight there and back. This is unofficial information. The crew will be three astronauts.

Interview with chief designer of Tiangong-2

http://china.org.cn/china/2016-10/14/content_39487895.htm

Most interesting comment for me was:

"Zhu added that Tiangong 2 will have no other mission after it docks with Tianzhou 1 next year."

which indicates no Shenzhou-12 visit.    Pity.

So, Shenzhou-12 will be used to transport the first crew to the new Tiangong modular station (?)

Next time, that is, the Shenzhou on the 12th, will be launched in 2018 docking space station core module.
