Andrey, what is the satus of Boris Morukov? In January you wrote
"4. Boris Morukov has retired from IMBP cosmonaut detachment, and Sergey Ryazanskiy is the commander of IMBP cosmonaut detachment now... "
and today  "Morukov is working in IMBP" .

I do not know for now. Probably info in January was wrong (I am sorry if so) or premature. In the latest issue of Novosti kosmonavtiki magazine Sergey Shamsutdinov has written Boris Morukov is still in IMBP Detachment.

Andrey, another question, as far as I know Yuri Onufrienko left the Cosmonaut group in 2004, now he is listed as a member of the MKS-Group 1. Did he return to active cosmonaut duty?

Olaf, he have not returned. If I understand correctly, Yuriy Onufrienko simply maintains his space knowledge with help of training.

If I΄ve read it correctly at astronaut.ru Valeri Tokarev was selected as the head of the Rostov rayon of the Jaroslavl region. Does it mean that he will leave the Air Force and the cosmonaut group in the near future?

"October 1 - Soyuz TMA-16 launch [R.Romanenko, J.Williams, Gruzdev (TBD)]"

Does this mean that Michael Kornienko will fly later?

"October 30 - Discovery (STS-129) landing [Thirsk (TBD)]"

Would Thirsk still need to come down on this flight?  It wouldn't seem so now.

If Vladimir Gruzdev will fly, then Mikhail Kornienko is the most probable candidate for excluding from Soyuz TMA-16 crew.

"October 30 - Discovery (STS-129) landing [Thirsk (TBD)]"

If Gruzdev will fly, then we can not return Thirsk on Soyuz TMA-14. We also can not return him on Soyuz TMA-15. We can return him only on Soyuz TMA-16 (but it will be in spring of 2010) or on the Space Shuttle (STS-129 is the nearest flight after Soyuz TMA-14 landing).

There are two variants:

1. If Gruzdev will fly on Soyuz TMA-16, then Kornienko will be excluded from Soyuz TMA-16 crew, Thirsk will land on STS-129 and ISS will have five permanent crewmembers in Expedition 20.

2. If Gruzdev will not fly on Soyuz TMA-16, then Kornienko will be in Soyuz TMA-16 crew, Thirsk will land on Soyuz TMA-14 and ISS will have six permanent crewmembers in Expedition 20.

Variant 1 quoted here seems to have some issues. If Thirsk lands on STS 129, this mission can only be launched with 6 crew members. Thus there seems no advantage to take Williams off this flight and place him on the Soyuz, except 2 extra weeks aboard ISS.
The Russians would also lose 1 crew slot for this Expedition, in the event of a long delay to STS 129 this would give US an extra crew slot between Soyuz TMA-16 and STS 129 (as Thirsk is a "guest" of US.)

Also curious to the fate of Kornienko, could he be considered for the empty slot on Soyuz TMA-15?

Further to previous post, I also noted other impact of new dates for STS 129 and Soyuz TMA-16 return.
Given proximity of STS 129 date to Soyuz TMA-16 return, and fact that launch is so far away, it seems likely that STS 129 will move to after Soyuz TMA-16 return. This will have the effect that the Canadian Thirsk will have a longer stay on ISS than the ESA astronaut DeWinne.
Surely this will not be pleasing to the Europeans given their relative contributions to the station.

Never thought one Russian billionaire could cause so many problems.
