Why is there such a fuss about this "record"?   It pales into insignificance when compared with the Russian duration record of 804 days by Gennady Padalka.

Because when it comes to giant foam finger waving, we're #1!!!

Seriously, is it so surprising? Of course a US agency and the US President are going to celebrate US accomplishments. Virtually every country, sports franchise and every other arbitrary human "tribe" touts firsts within that tribe. Wasn't Helen Sherman a celebrity of sorts for being the first British astronaut even though she wasn't the first-ever astronaut?
Space is not Highlander.  There can, and will, be more than one.

One thing that Trump also mentioned, which wasn't noted above, was that military space was important to him.
