iPhone/iPod Shuttle flight simulator
« on: 01/30/2010 06:26 am »
Hello,
I've written a new Space Shuttle flight simulator for the iPhone and iPod touch. You can control it by tilting and rotating the device.

The information I've found on this site has proven to be invaluable, and with it I think I've been able to create one of the most realistic Space Shuttle landing simulations, at least on a mobile platform.

You can fly final approaches or the full HAC, the head-up-display is fully functional and has all the symbols found in the real HUD, I've even used the same equations for the guidance, navigation and control system as the real computers in the orbiter do. There's a lot of more options (like wind, gust and turbulence) and you can choose runways at the Kennedy Space Center and at Edwards Airforce Base.

Here's a screenshot:

Some more screenshots are available here,
there's a youtube video:
F-SIM on youtube
and the homepage is www.f-sim.com

The game is available in the iTunes store for $1.99 here

Please let me know what you think, feedback is highly appreciated :)

The topic was blocked until today because there have been some issues with the sound which should be resolved now.

Meanwhile I've updated the app and you can now fly night- and overcast approaches, etc.

New screenshots and videos can be found at www.f-sim.com

Please let me know what you think.

Great app with some very nice details, well worth the $1.99 IMHO. I decided to just play without bothering to read the manuals, and managed to land, albeit with a blown tire and swerving up to 288ft off the runway centerline. Ahem.
Someone is wrong on the Internet.

Very well done.  Better than the shuttle sim I have for FSX actually.  I was getting my winter tires taken off this morning so I was playing this in the dealership's waiting area for about an hour.  Had one guy behind me mutter "That's the coolest thing ever."

I still haven't touched down perfectly though.  Almost made it perfect but de-rotated just a touch too fast.

YAY!  I made a perfect landing.  All greens and "wheels stop" right on the centerline.

It's great.  Excellent work.  I'd love to have something like this on my PC to play with my flight stick.  The Captain Sim Shuttle addon for FSX leaves me wanting.

I second that! SSM2007 is great.

It's Windows only though. If you're looking for something that runs on Windows, OSX and Linux: X-Plane has a shuttle too, you can fly the reentry and the HAC down to a landing at Edwards.

I've just updated F-SIM Space Shuttle to version 1.4.2
New features include:
* Manual control over rudder/speedbrake, gear, chute and wheelbrakes
* Simulated failures like a stuck speedbrake
* Achievements and online highscores
and much more...

I hope you like it, feedback is - as always - highly appreciated!

I love it :) And will slap anyone that lands it perfectly in front of me!! I have progressed beyond blowing tyres out, but yet to have it tell me i didn't land too hard!  ::)

I have a loooooooooooooong plane ride from Australia to the STS133 launch to perfect it though!

Glad I saw this.   I'll get way more than $1.99 worth of fun out of it.

Not going to lie, I overcontrolled and got into a a PIO on my first attempt.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. -- Douglas Adams
