You're all making me really jealous with your fancy phones! Nokia Windows 7 bargain basement nonsense here. The Commodore 64 of phones!
Is there a "new" button on the mobile version? I couldn't find it.
Just started using the mobile version and I wonder about Lars question. Sometimes when I'm at the last post in the thread I see the right arrow and get the behavior Lars mentions. Sometimes it works as I think it should where the next page arrow doesn't exist because you are at the last post. No clue why the different behavior for same situation of being on the last post of a thread.

Is the plan still to change the default to the full version?
I have an iPad. The desktop version is a VAST improvement over the Mobil version for this platform. Using the button to switch is only a minor annoyance, but it's hard to imagine someone preferring the version that was designed for a tiny screen when you have a full tablet.
Personally I don't get tablets at all. Both my wife and I use our phones as tablets. They're more flexible since they have cell connections and can be used as phones and they can be with you all the time. Two less things for me to buy, maintain and upgrade.
I have been using, and greatly enjoying, the mobile version on my iPad - but you've evidently reverted to the desktop version as default for tablets. If there is a place to request the mobile version, it is incredibly well hidden! Please, how about a large and obvious button (like the one that said "use desktop version" when in mobile format) that lets us choose to default to the (vastly superior, IMHO) mobile version?
I'm using Tapatalk and in many cases quotes are broken. The oute most opening quote is replaced with a "dummyquote" word.
Dumb question, Chris feel free to delete/move/answer. On my android 4.4.2 SCH-I545 Build / KOT49H Chrome 39.0.2171.93 I accidentally clicked the view full site button and now can no longer get back to the mobile version. Anyone know how to get back to the mobile version? It grows on you, but I kinda like it better when using the phone. Thanks,
Click the Mobile tab at the very bottom of the full-verision & that should put back to mobile
Heh! That really did require three arrows! We'll look at solving that, especially as we need to make it (c) 2015 on the site tags.
Quote from: Chris Bergin on 01/05/2015 04:44 pmHeh! That really did require three arrows! We'll look at solving that, especially as we need to make it (c) 2015 on the site tags.If you come to NSF on a mobile browser, that browser identifies itself to the server, and the mobile version of the site is rendered. On Android, the three browsers that I use (Chrome, Firefox, and "Internet") all have an option where they can override the default and instead "request desktop site", or similar. Unfortunately, NSF's mobile theme ignores the "hey, give me the desktop site" request, and gives the mobile version again. It would be a superb usability enhancement if this could switch over to the desktop theme, and back again. Cheers, Martin
It then displayed the mobile version of the site, but near the bottom of the mobile version's home page there was a link labeled "View full site". This brought up the regular full site I can see on my desktop PC, and it operates exactly like the site operates on my PC using Chrome under Win7.
L2 bug... In the mobile browser, when you're on the last page in a public thread at the bottom you'll see the back arrow to the left of the page number selector. When you're on the last page in an L2 thread, you'll see the back arrow, the page number selector, and then the forward arrow. Pressing forward takes you to page 1. I like the first style better as you'll know it's the end of the thread.
I'm having an issue with the mobile version of the site via Android Chrome (39.0.2171.93) on a Galaxy Note 8.0 (N5120) running Android 4.4.2 . If I try to reply to a thread, the text box is greyed out, and not editable. This makes it impossible to post from the mobile theme. It's been like this for some time, TBH. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7d3jzidvi7vaq3t/2014-12-15%2009.48.50.png?dl=0It seems to work from Firefox Android (34.0) on this device. It also seems to work OK on my phone (Galaxy Grand Duos, I9082), on Android 4.2.2. This is running exactly the same version of Chrome, so my first hunch is this is somehow related to Android 4.4 over 4.2.I'm not really sure that the text box looks right when it's greyed out. I'd perhaps expect this to have a white background if it can take user input. Not sure if this is related in some way to the issue I'm having? Cheers, Martin
Not sure. I logged in on my iphone 6 in safari without issue. Could be some external tapatalk issue? I did notice that for once I didn't get that annoying "do you want tapatalk" message. If it is, it's to do with tapatalk not us and out of our control. What I'd say for this thread is anyone having issues, always add their device/OS and Browser - so there's an ability (based on others having the same) to try and duplicate an issue.
Good temp solution with the full site and back to mobile. Nicely noted.
OK, Mark's done some coding. Can you all check it's back to normal mobile log in for all?
Something that has confused me for a while... umm, not sure if I've even noticed this super recently, so maybe it is already "fixed"...Let's say you're on the last page of a thread. At the bottom of the page there will be a drop down with the page number, with a "back" arrow on the left. On some threads there is nothing on the right. I guess this makes sense, you can't go further forward than the last page. However, on other threads there is a "forward" arrow. If you click it, it takes you to the "All" view where you see all the posts for the entire thread on one page.I prefer when there is no forward arrow on the last page, then I know when I'm done and I can go "up" instead of forward. Regardless of my preference though... is there some logic behind the difference between threads?
I have a suggestion for the mobile view of news articles. When viewing articles on a mobile device the reader is presented with a "SEE ALSO" bar and related links (see attached for an example) in the middle of the article. This makes it look like the end of the article. I suggest adding something to the effect of, "[article continues below]" to above this "SEE ALSO" bar, so the reader knows to keep scrolling. It's a small thing, but would help readability on smartphones.
I've noticed that issue as well. My solution would be to scrap the "See Also" bar. I don't think it's needed.Edit: Well, maybe it is useful. Not sure if people use it or not. Is there a way to measure the clicks from it?

Question about the mobile website handling of unread topics.Do you use a cookie on the mobile browser to track last message read for a topic, or is the message number tracked on the server associated with my logged in id?I often switch back and forth between my iPhone Safari browser and my Windows 10 desktop Chrome browser. I have NO confidence in the mobile browser ability to position me at the next unread message for a topic, whether last visited via mobile or desktop browser. This is something I think the <cast your favorite aspersion> Tapatalk application did, but I've been trying to switch off of that and use the mobile website.Suggestions? Chrome on iPhone maybe? Or is there a setting in my profile I've not found ...

3. Website does not respect the "desktop site" option in the mobile browser. For obvious reasons, I want to use the desktop version of the site, but the server insists on sending the mobile layout regardless.
I'm having some severe usability issues with the mobile version of the forum....2. When posting a message, the form layout is recalculated after every letter, or indeed any time the cursor is moved. This results in the browser reseting the view to the top of the page, rendering posting messages longer than what fit the screen effectively impossible.
That's the strangest issue I've ever seen with mobile NSF. *Seems* to be just RH, but yeah - before Mark tries to work it out, I've never heard anyone else note such an issue, so it could be specific to this member. Still want to get to the bottom of it.
You are correct, I am indeed getting a different link, I didn't notice it, and it is taking me to the last page.

It's been this way for a long time and makes the mobile version quite a pain to use if you've not viewed unread for a while. For as long as I can stand it, I go to the last post with that button then scroll backwards to find where I think I left off. Really not ideal. The desktop site is far too small on my phone so that's not a solution.
Whenever i visit NSF main page on my phone (https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/) and then press the menu to go to the forums, the NSF logo at the top takes 1-2 seconds to load and changes the other items' position in that list, causing misclicks.can anything be done to fix this? Might be small but causes some annoyance.attached a screenshot with the logo in question; using the latest version of chrome mobile on android.

It needs to use the same code as the normal category display.
Yeah, full site theme is better on mobile than it was, but the "new" button is tiny and that's the place I actually want to go. If that could be made big enough to tap reliably, that'd send me home happy.
This is a strange issue I came across on one thread. Anyone else ever had this issue and if so what was your solution?
Honest question: is NSF interested in improving the workings (layout/interface) of this site? I see a lot of energy going into YouTube and Discord, which is excellent. Maybe that's the focus now.
As I read the forum more and more on mobile devices, with mobile theme, no tap a talk, could we have a 'like' button of sorts on the mobile forum theme pls? The how is different matter of course. Button? Sliding like in email?
