According to officials, the ISRO will launch ScatSat -- a weather monitoring and forecasting satellite -- with polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) end of next month.

The Indian satellite will be a co-passenger to an Algerian satellite.

Both the satellites will be put into different orbits. So the fourth engine of the rocket will be switched off after ejecting ScatSat first. Then after a gap of around 30 minutes, the engine will be switched on and put the Algerian satellite into its intended orbit.

PSLV-C35 / SCATSAT-1

SCATSAT-1 is a continuity mission for Oceansat-2 Scatterometer to provide wind vector data products for weather forecasting, cyclone detection and tracking services to the users. The satellite carries Ku-band scatterometer similar to the one flown onboard Oceansat-2.  The spacecraft is built around standard IMS-2 Bus and the mass of the spacecraft is 360 kg. The spacecraft will be put in SSP orbit of 720 km altitude with an inclination of 98.27 deg by PSLV-C35. The mission life of the satellite is 5 years.

The satellite is scheduled for launch during Second Half of September, 2016 onboard PSLV-C35 from SDSC SHAR , Sriharikota.

CanX-7 went through Indian customs on Sept 8 from Canada at Chennai air cargo
Alsat-1N on Sept 2 from UK at Chennai air cargo
Alsat-1B on Sept 2 from UK at Chennai air cargo

So the final list of satellites onboard would be:
Scatsat-1, Alsat-2B, Pathfinder-1, Alsat-1N, Alsat-1B, CanX-7, Pratham, Pisat

Considering the lower weight of the satellites, would this launch use a PSLV-CA configuration?

Seems, Alsat-2B passed through long back on June 29. And, Pathfinder-1 comes with a lot of associated parts like even computer monitors, security cameras, administrative supplies. Why so specific to send even administrative supplies from the US?

So the two PlanetiQ satellites, Max Valier Sat and Venta 1 are not flying on C35?

Going by the information on PlanetiQ website, I suppose, they are targeting a end-fall/early-2017 timeframe...which I suppose gels well with Resourcesat-2A launch on the next PSLV.

http://satmaxvalier.it/ counts down to 17 days as of now. Not sure, if that means a launch on PSLV-C35.

Is it usual for the last drop zone to be so far south? Has it got something to do with a late ignition of 3rd stage in this mission?

EDIT: Or are they attempting a 4th stage deorbit this time?

Not sure about deorbit; but this time 4th stage is going to be restarted to place payloads in different orbits.

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/science/science/210916/isros-multi-orbit-launch-on-anvil.html

Quote
The rocket will first place the 370-kg ScatSat-1, a weather satellite to watch for cyclones, in orbit 720 km above the earth. About an hour and 20 minutes later, it will inject seven smaller satellites into an orbit 670 km above the earth. Among the seven are two satellites, one of them from IIT-B, and five belonging to international customers including the US

Quote
To achieve this, the fourth stage of the rocket will be ignited twice. The maximum time Isro has taken for any launch is about 20 minutes after launch. Monday’s mission will last 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Quote
Satish Dhawan Space Centre director P. Kunhi Krishnan said the ScatSat-1 will be separated within 17 minutes of launch, after the fourth stage is shut off. The stage will be ignited briefly after 1 hour and 22 minutes and stopped. It will be started again about 40 minutes later, and the last satellite will be placed in orbit about 2 hours and 15 minutes after launch.

Quote
“We have demonstrated the fourth stage engine restart capability. The fourth stage was restarted once in case of PSLV C-29 and twice with respect to PSLV-C34” Mr Kunhi Krishnan told this newspaper.
