Relative mass of the interstage
« on: 07/27/2014 02:25 pm »
I know that prop tanks are pressurized and that helps to stabilize them and also helps to transfer force from the bottom to the top of the tanks.

Is the interstage also pressurized and if so, how do they manage that? If not, generally speaking what is the relative mass per unit length of the interstage when compared to the pressurized fuel or oxidizer tanks?

Edit - typo

Don't you mean "inter" stage?

If you are talking about interstage no, it is not pressurized.
No simple answer about mass per unit lenght.
Normally simple shape (cylinder) and type of load (compression - buckling) cope well with the use of carbon fiber (or CF + honeycomb).
Oh to be young again. . .

Yes, I do.  :-[

You can edit your posts, I believe, and then the mods will (sometimes) clean up all the "it's a typo" and "yes thanks" posts... maybe even this one.

Hey, you could have actually edited the thread title while you were doing that. (Big smiley towards the scary mod.)

Aero can also edit the title of his first post, which will fix the thread title.

Cheers, Martin
