Coverage of Atlantis post flight and T&R processing - as much as she and Endeavour remain under a "do no harm" order based on ensuring they are not processed outside of a norminal flow. I have a major interview in work on this subject.

The Raffaello MPLM, plus the LMC carrier with pump module, have been removed from the cargobay of Atlantis, and placed inside the transport canister.
Pictures available at the SpaceflightNow website. http://www.spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts135/payloadremoval/index2.html
I guess they will show up shortly on the KSC gallery page.

Today, the last ever SSME will be removed from an orbiter. :(

"Techs will remove shuttle Atlantis' final main engine today and transport it to Kennedy's engine shop. Engines 2&3 were removed last week."

Regarding the latest article that Atlantis and Endeavour can technically fly two flights per year:

Can some one elaborate more on how United Space Alliance can do this? (technically).

1. Even for STS-135, there is a debate that Discovery will be used instead of Atlantis citing Atlantis was due for an OMDP etc. So how can Atlantis can continue flying without a significant gap according to the current situation?

2. Where will the boosters and ETs come from? (and on what time frames?)

3. Atlantis does not have a SSTPS capability as such it cant do a mission of no more than 12 days. This limitation was also seen on STS-135 where only a single day was added. If Atlantis is going to be fitted with SSTPS, how long will it take ?

I forgot where I learned this, but based from it, they did Atlantis' OMDP on her OPF in increments (?) while Discovery and Endeavour were prepping for their final (still hoping for a miracle that it wont be, at least for Endeavour) flights...

please correct me if I'm wrong guys... thanks
