I hope Shelby thinks of a better way than Ares I to secure pork for his state. Seriously, I can't believe all of the praise for the Ares I, which is basically a step-back from the Shuttle in all respects (including costs) except for the launch abort system.

Quit villianizing Shelby.  He's doing what a senator should.  If it was Jupiter that he was trying to protect, would he still be the bad guy on the NSF forums?

In addition, this is not about Ares 1, this is about delaying whatever Constellation becomes.

I wonder if space systems management specialist Fiengold would
do away with all the pork in the NASA budget? But then West Virginia
may have to use it's own taxes to run?

Abandone Earth remote sensing missions?  It's obvious that NOAA
and the NPOESS is not working.  NASA must keep Earth Remote sensing
going for climate change and land mass sensing.

With STS and ISS  NASA is no longer a research and development agency
but a service to operate missions that should be under some type
of space operations agency.

Maybe 2 less B2 bombers could keep NASA funded?
How about that space systems management specialist Fiengold?

I'm not villainizing him. I have a feeling that the pendulum is going to start swinging back towards the Republicans (not instantly, but eventually it will happen), in which case Shelby will have even more say on space policy issues than he does now.

That's exactly my point! I wish he was so enthusiastic about supporting a more useful design.

This thread has nothing to even do with Shelby so you are missing the point.

That's right. Maybe if Gherst & Bolden went up to him, showed & talked to him abotut he Ares I issues, and what a change in the PoR would do to give his centers more work, that would swing him around. he's only believing Ares I as the best because that's what he was told & made to believe all these years.
