Very silly would be an inflatable "Trojan Horse".
... or inflatable Homer Simpson- ideally with a few snacks orbiting his head.

X-37? Not on the maiden launch of a new heavy lift booster, they wouldn't.

Heh, it's only a few meters short of being able to orbit a full-scale New Shepard booster.

Other frivolous but space related suggestions playing to Musk's interests and sense of whimsey include launching Robby The Robot, or an Alien mockup.

Must said it would be something crazy. If not cheese related, it is likely Pythonesque.

"Nooobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

28 Tons of Shrubbery.

I think by the time LC40 is ready and the mods done to LC39A that we will be at the end of this year or the start of next.  So I'm leaning toward CommX demo sats.

That and maybe a demo of a second stage recovery.

A mannequin with Elon's face, wearing the Ironman Suit. :)

Maybe they'll launch some tungsten telephone poles.

Leaves open the option for Musk to go super-villain at some point.
JIMO would have been the first proper spaceship.

Okay, but it has to be done in Red and Gold!

Or a mockup of B-9 from Lost in Space.

Not to re-open a can of worms, but does anybody know WHEN they might announce what the demo "payload" is? Or will it remain "under wraps"  ::) until after the flight like the cheese?

Someone needs to check with Blue Bird, IC Bus, and Thomas Built to see if any yellow school busses have been delivered to SpaceX

Wouldn't taking cheese to the Moon be like taking 'coal to Newcastle'? ::)

I'm hoping they'll launch a Tesla.
