President Donald Trump, First Daughter Ivanka Trump, and NASA astronaut Kate Rubins will make a special 20-minute, Earth-to-space call at 10 a.m. EDT Monday, April 24, to personally congratulate NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson for her record-breaking stay aboard the International Space Station.

NASA will provide live coverage of the event via the following agency assets:

President: "Is there a schedule for Mars". Peggy: "You bill notes 2030s." Trump says he wants to do it in his FIRST term, if not second!

Good luck with that.

Don't worry, Jared Kushner is going to sort it out! ;D

Not bad going for Jack Fischer - within a week he's gone from being an unflown astronaut, to talking to Presidents from space! :)

He did very well. You could tell they had been "trained" in what to get across, but they did it very well.

Why is there such a fuss about this "record"?   It pales into insignificance when compared with the Russian duration record of 804 days by Gennady Padalka.

Because when it comes to giant foam finger waving, we're #1!!!

Seriously, is it so surprising? Of course a US agency and the US President are going to celebrate US accomplishments. Virtually every country, sports franchise and every other arbitrary human "tribe" touts firsts within that tribe. Wasn't Helen Sherman a celebrity of sorts for being the first British astronaut even though she wasn't the first-ever astronaut?
Space is not Highlander.  There can, and will, be more than one.

One thing that Trump also mentioned, which wasn't noted above, was that military space was important to him.
