OUCH!

How about:

Option 2- Close/Demolish Facilities and Structures at Various Locations to include the Orbiter Mate/Demate, Ammonia Boiler Refurbishment, and Storage Facilities

Losing the orbiter mate/demate facility (if correct) will be a hard one to swallow

Why? It's just rusting steel.

Hmm, curious about AF. I thought it was still being used. By ATK or someone else I believe....

There's no money for it and the apron "real estate" might be better used in some other way.  They were already planning to remove the one at Dryden.  (That was back in September when Endeavour was there one last time.  The MDD there might already be gone.)

For those of us unfamiliar with the location of these structures, can someone tell us where they are located?

Wish someone would run a "replacement cost" program before all these buildings are gone.

No need to do that since there is no need for these specific buildings.  There is an excess of buildings on the Cape and no users.

Here is Hangar AF.

Here is Hangar S.

The Mate/Demate is, of course, here.

We've tossed the idea around once or twice about storing a first stage there when there is already one at the pad since AO won't work anymore. One of the cons we were told was that we'd have to share the hanger, with ATK I thought. But it's completely possible we had heard wrong...

Seems a whole lot cheaper to just new construct a steel hanger.  It's not like the hangers SpaceX uses for their falcon rockets are anything special.

What's wrong with AO?
