Apollo earth/ lunar missions.
« on: 02/02/2008 06:48 am »
I was recently looking at David Scotts biography. It stated that he was one of only 3 astronauts to fly both Earth orbit and lunar Apollo missions. Does anyone know who the other two are. I would think there are more than that.

Tom Stafford: Apollo 10, ASTP
Al Bean: Apollo 12, Skylab
Pete Conrad: Apollo 12, Skylab

Am I missing somthing here or did NASA make a typo?

Thanks

Not an Apollo, but John Young later flew several Shuttle missions.....

Of course there were many more if you consider those who participated in either Mercury/Gemini and subsequently Apollo  - ,  Armstrong, Aldrin, Collins, Cernan, Borman, Lovell, Gordon

Unless he was talking about lunar landing missions, which would rule Stafford out.

I assumed he meant those who had went to the moon, then flew earth orbital mission(s) afterwards....

I said just Apollo if I remember right, I will look again and post the link. Maybe I am misunderstanding.

If that was so, it wouldn't include Dave Scott.

I could have been incorrect on my assumption; the original post at the start of this thread doesn't list the missions in that order.  So Scott should be included in the list.

Since the bio wasn't written by Mike Griffin, we can question it; it's either a misstatement or a mis-count.

Of course, all manned Apollo missions start out as earth orbit missions. ;-)

If they meant just low earth orbit Apollo missions and lunar landing missions, then it would be just Scott, Conrad and Bean.

John Young flew on Apollo 10 and on Apollo 16 so he flew to the Moon TWICE.

What about Tom Stafford? Apollo 10 was a lunar mission and ASTP (Apollo 18) was a earth orbit mission.

Yes, you had already listed Stafford in your first post in this thread  ;) .....
