Aquarius Descent Stage/How Much Fuel Remaining?
« on: 12/31/2006 12:32 pm »
A thought that just popped into my mind a few days ago; when the crew of the Apollo - 13 cast off the Lunar
Module, Aquarius, shortly before re-entry, how much fuel did the descent stage have left after all those course
corrections/firings?

If this has been discussed before, I apologies...

From this website ( http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/database/MasterCatalog?sc=1970-029A ) there were three burns totalling 275.9ms
Taking the Apollo CSM+LEM to have a mass of 45,025kg, to produce this delta-v would require 3,900kg of propellant.
This would leave 4265kg of propellant in the LEM descent stage.
