Bolden has left! So no questions for him!

That's not very professional. He shouldn't be hiding. They said that he had other NASA budget briefings to give...

NASA is set for $100 billion over five years.

Re-outlines the billions. Flagship program is the innovation projects with fuel depots etc. $100m of less for things like new concept propulsion.

$550m in 2011 for HLV.

Robotic missions to the moon and demo for lunar materials (return? and also notes future manned missions).

They really aren't being all that clear on this all. Hopefully the Q&A will deal with this.

Human exploration-focused robotics precursor missions (explicitly not science-focused) to the Moon, etc.

Maybe a question like: "What has happened to NASA HSF?"

Safety value for slip in shuttle manifest into 2011 - ok that's good confirmation.

$2b in five years for KSC for a 21st C center.

More repeating off the Bolden outline.

Indeed.

They were quite clear about canceling CxP.  The rest is mush.

I don't think this augurs well at all.

That's a lot of money for commercial.  I wonder if SpaceX and Orbital could even grow their launch programs that fast - I'm sure ULA can soak up anything.

Glad I bought Orbital stock last week on the rumors... :)

Who owns the Orion IP. Can a commercial provider use some to the work that has been done on Orion to develop a capsule ?

Depends on whether they have some strange way of sailing SD-HLLV down a commercial path - USA on steroids.

We may well get that answer tomorrow.

Seth - AP:

To Lori: Next mission instead of CxP, is it Flexible Path? Asks schedule.

Lori: Not setting timelines or goals. Moon is still important for the future, as well as NEO and Mars. Reserving the decline in new technologies. (errm?)

No funding for SRB after 2010. Can be part of a commercial bid, but no funding.

Money for SD tech?

Lori: That further investement from the competitors. Right now nothing other than FY10 for SD.

No specific funding for SSME or SRBs? DIRECT/Jupiter is definitely dead.

Well, according to Lori, we're going "somewhere" after ISS, which is of course not before 2020.

Boeing needs to win or SD is gone.

They really aren't being all that clear on this all.

Neither clear, nor confident it seems. Taking note on tones of voice and there have been spots where nerves were definitely shinning through.

Beyond LEO after ISS so sometime after 2020... I guess this gives a lot of time for development.

My views are mine, and mine alone and DO NOT reflect that of my employer nor my place of employment.
