Now I'm curious - What's involved with the customs procedures and does it involve customs officers?!

I recall that Apollo astronaunts had to go through something similar right down to filling out declarations of goods they brought back when they returned from the moon.......!

Progress is launched from Baikonur, which is located in Kazakhstan, independent state. The ship and the rocket are manufactured in the Russian Federation, another independent state. There is a regular customs procedure when you ship products (in this case ship and the rocket) from one state to another state (thanks God, no customs dutes - we have a customs union with Kazakhstan).

No more Soviet Union, fortunately or unfortunately... ;)
