Russia's Cosmos-3M Space Carrier Orbits Military Satellite

27.04.2010

http://www.roscosmos.ru/main.php?id=2&nid=10359

A Russian carrier rocket orbited a military satellite on Tuesday at 6:08 Moscow time (2:08 GMT), a spokesman for the Russian Space Forces said.

The Cosmos-3M rocket lifted off earlier on Tuesday from the Plesetsk space center in northwest Russia.

The military satellite is a new addition to a Russian network of about 60-70 military reconnaissance satellites.

The Cosmos-3M is a liquid-fueled two-stage rocket, first launched in 1967, with over 410 successful launches to date. The booster has been designed to lift a payload of up to 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs) into low, medium, and high orbits.

The previous launch of Cosmos-3M with one military and one civilian satellites was conducted on July 21, 2009.

445th launch of Kosmos-3M rocket with aim to reach orbit

In my classification, it is the 446th launch. Which of these didn't aim at reaching orbit ?

Thanks !

My list also classifies this as 446th launch of a Kosmos-3M

If it is indeed 445, then one of the early launches might be a Kosmos-3 instead of -3M, but based on my information i am pretty convinced, that 446 is the true number.

There was not Kosmos-3M launch on June 26, 1973, there was explosion of rocket after cancellation of launch.

That is the solution - i had given this explosion a launch number, as my information was, that it exploded shortly befor launch. But it appears now, that is was an accident after a scrubbed launch.

Kosmos 3M should be replaced by Soyuz-1 in the near future, but will the typical Kosmos 3M payloads really transfer to Soyuz-1, or to Rokot?

You don't expect to see Angara-1.1 from Plesetsk?

There is going to be a "gap" between the last Kosmos-3M and the first Angara 1.1.
