SpX is not going to be sold as long as their rockets continue to be successful. 2-3 rocket failures, would change everything.

SpX is in the big leagues now. No doubt, GenCorp, ULA, LM and Boeing could and would like to buy them. But NG/TRW would be a more natural fit, given their history with SpX.

SpX would probably like to evolve some of TRW advanced engine designs.

Ah, so Merlin 1D-Vac does exist.  I remember there being a discussion about that earlier.

Though Popovkin to me is nice, I understand that he is mistaken. It is impossible to say simultaneously that the space industry in Russia too big, and simultaneously to exclude from the national space program sixteen points because RosKosmos could not execute them in time
But I suggest not to speak here about it, I simply establish the fact that Popovkin is not the competent expert concerning future SpaceX.

Thank you Valerij for your extended interpretation. You make a lot of sense.

That twitter post says 80 tons of thrust for the vacuum version?
Is than a big jump from the Merlin1c vacuum engine?
How deep is the throttle for that Merlin1d vacuum engine?

That is compared to around 42tons of thrust (estimated) for the Merlin 1c Vac. And it's still a lot greater than what most people were probably estimating for the Falcon Heavy upper stage. That explains why people weren't able to reproduce SpaceX's performance figures for the Heavy.

Can anyone explain to me how they might have managed to almost double the vacuum thrust between two revisions of the same engine?!?  :o

For one, the original MVac is a downrated version of Merlin 1C. Recall they had some temperature issues during development with just running a vac-modded M1C. On the other hand they said the M1D-Vac would be essentially the same as M1D which by itself is 150% of M1C thrust.

Why not? Plenty of people who don't play for the England football team wear England football shirts around here. I own a "Team GB" cycling jersey, even though I'm not an Olympic cyclist. Why shouldn't people wear a SpaceX shirt if they want to?

Because no one outside of ULA buys ULA "gerzts" And it's not cool to hurt their feelings....

BTW it does seem like a good marketing strategy to get the Spacex name out there and make a little money at the same time...

Then I'm not cool with Nike, the Tennessee Titans, or the Nashville Rollergirls Derby team either. I like to think I was Spacex before it was cool anyway. I'll wear it for the IPO. :)

Well considering they have a kids and baby section, by Jim's definition does that put SpaceX in violation of child labor laws?

btw. For the record, I try to avoid wearing logo swag... My work wear is button down shirts, dress slacks and no sneakers. Oh well, time to be old somewhere else ;)
