MTTF/FIT Rates for High Power Electronics
« on: 09/07/2016 08:53 am »
Dear all,
I am looking for some quotable information on the FIT rate (failures in 10^9 hours) or the MTTF of high power space electronics, such as TWTA EPCs. I have looked at Mil Handbook 217F (I know this is expressed as failures in 10^6 hours) but while this is "good" for components (including TWTs) it does not really help for the power electronics. I have found some manufacturer's data on LNAs but that's not really what I am looking for.

So can any of you industry experts point me at some accessible sources for this information?
Sorry if this has been posted before but my search didn't bring up any prior posts.

Many thanks

Ian,
thanks for highlighting this report. It basically goes through the Mil Hdbk calculation (wrongly!) for the TWTs themselves. However, it doesn't give any insight into the EPC and/or other high power devices. I have seen a Boeing report which goes into how the reliability of TWTAs and SSPAs have improved over time but, unfortunately, gives no baselines failure rates as these are "proprietary".

I'm somewhat surprised that there doesn't appear to be any public source of information on these, what I would assume are, off the shelf components.
