Thanks for starting this thread!  My new Printrbot Simple Metal printer arrived just after Christmas, but I finally had time to put it together and start playing.   I'm working on a copy of @manboy's Dragon v1, very cool, and I'm also printing out the Buran that was linked earlier for my 2-yr old to play with (he is obsessed with rockets, wonder where that comes from?).  I like the exploded version of the Dragon, I'm expecting that my son will enjoy taking apart the trunk, capsule and solar panels.

He's just discovered how staging works ("good bye fuel tank!") so I expect at some point I'm going to tweak some of the excellent SpaceX-related models to have separate stages that snap or slide together somehow, like the slide mechanism in the Buran.

Anyone else have any favorite aerospace-related toys they've printed?

my favorites are not released yet :D

Congrats and welcome to the new 3D printer world.

Hope you can share your tweaked designs, that's where the real advantage comes along.

I've designed and printed a flying "pad abort" dragon 2.  Going to launch it this weekend, I'll post the files assuming it flies well.

(Oh, and I made a "toy" variant with extra-thick nonbreakable fins and Velcro to hold the trunk to the capsule for my toddler to play with.)

Working mini msl curiosity model    http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:835053

It is not the real copy and its 'working!
This rover controlled via Bluetooth from remote. You can watch the picture from WiFi camera. It has a gimbal for camera, arm and two headlights. And all six wheels are driven!
Unfortunately, I am not ready yet to upload sources of hardware and software, but you can use my 3D-printed parts.

Little more about my project in English http://3dprint.com/67428/3d-printed-curiosity-model/
 Made for Russian site customelectronics.ru

Well done on the MSL model! Have to love functional replicas....

Coming soon to the 3d printing world - the Bell Agena rocket motor in 1:20 scale to match the beautiful accurate models F-1

This is a WIP - will post more when its done and I have the first ultra high res plastic print of it...

Recommendations / experiences on best value 3D printing services? Specifically, selective laser sintering in nylon.

I've had good experience with Shapeways. Haven't tried other services: the only ones I found were at least 30% more expensive, and quality from Shapeways was good enough that I didn't bother switching.

At Shapeways, SLS nylon is known as "Strong & Flexible plastic"

Someone who I believe is on this forum just released a 3D printed Falcon 9 1.1. This model can be split into the falcons two stages, as the pictures show. (Pictures from the Thingiverse listing).

An update to the post about the F9 3D print. I asked the author about the dimensions of his model, so he posted this image  :)

Not strictly 'real' space hardware, but the BIS Daedalus starship is now sitting in my study:

https://www.shapeways.com/product/DGWAGSUKT/daedalus-spaceship?optionId=42526873&li=ostatus

The image is a preview from Shapeways - no real difference compared with actual model!

Hi guys, me and my colleague are working on 3d printable model which as close as possible to actual Falcon 9 1.2

We would like to print some models in both launch and landing configuration, are you aware of any blueprints with some size information so we can get it right?

Thank you

There aren't any. I've looked long and hard, but in the end I had to make my models from photos.

There's another Falcon 9 on thingiverse, a bit one:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1218358

The dimensions seem to be off, though -- much too short and stubby.

Here are the Falcon rockets I've made.  Not all 3d printed, though: most use traditional cardboard tube construction for the main body.

The four items in the front left are toys for my son (two dragons, a stubby F9 where the stages attach with Velcro, and an ASDS).  The rest are flying models.

The back left has a cutout for mounting a keychain video camera.  That nose section and tail fin section are 3d-printed.
